HOW DO I MANAGE MY OSTEOARTHRITIS? 🦴

Research from all over the world recommends exercise, education and weight management as the first-line treatment options for people living with osteoarthritis.

Second-line treatment options can be help with symptom relief and make it easier to engage with exercise and weight loss management. These include heat packs, topical creams, massage, or medications however, they only help short term.

We recommend taking an active approach by focusing on first-line treatments and using second-line options as supportive tools to help you move more comfortably and live well with osteoarthritis.

If you would like more advice or guidance on managing osteoarthritis, please feel free to reach out.

OSTEOARTHRITIS 🦴

1 in 11 Australians report having osteoarthritis with it being the most common joint disease in Australia.

It has long been thought that osteoarthritis is 'wear and tear' or 'bone one bone'. Research shows that osteoarthritis is a combination of many risk factors and not solely overuse of your joints. It can affect any and all structures of the joint including your muscles - not just your cartilage or bones.

Physiotherapists can diagnose osteoarthritis and provide support and treatment to guide you through strategies that can help reduce pain, improve function, and support long-term joint health.

GP REFERRAL OPTIONS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

🟩 GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP):
Set up by your GP, a GPCCMP supports people living with chronic conditions to access coordinated, personalised care. The plan focuses on your individual needs and provides access to Medicare-subsidised allied health services, such as physiotherapy.
A GPCCMP can include up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year, shared across services agreed on with your GP.
Referrals are valid for 18 months.

🟧 Sonder:
Sonder’s Integrated Primary Care program supports people with chronic medical conditions to better manage their health and wellbeing. Your GP and a Sonder consultant will work with you to develop a personalised care plan, which may include access to multiple allied health services - like physiotherapy - at no cost. Sonder is available once a GPCCMP has been used, or, has been allocated to a different health care professional.
Referrals are valid for 12 months.

πŸ“ž Speak with your GP to explore these referral options to see if you are eligible.
