Some great advice about making Christmas a fun time for our autistic kiddos as well!

🎄 Christmas Tip: Create a Christmas Schedule

For many Autistic kids, the holidays can be overwhelming. It’s best to be prepared and have a plan B. Create a visual schedule with some flexibility. Post-its can help visualise changes. Hang it somewhere where you and your child can access it easily.

Go through each event with them and make sure there is always a plan B for when they need some space. Our aim is not to 'manage a crisis' but to prevent them as much as possible.

A lot of Christmas advice focuses on how to keep Autistic kids regulated, as in, make sure they don’t bother anyone else. Instead, ask yourself: How can I make Christmas more enjoyable for my child? Talk to them and make space for activities, foods and games they enjoy.

This means letting go of your expectations and respecting their wants and needs. It might be nuggets and video games in their room instead of turkey and monopoly with the whole family. And that’s okay.
