Today is International Wheelchair Day and Zero Discrimination Day.

Two important reminders of something we believe every single day.

Mobility aids are not limitations.
They are tools for independence.

And disability is not something that should ever come with judgement, barriers or exclusion.

Here in the New England Region, we see strength, personality, humour and goals first. Not labels.

Everyone deserves access.
Everyone deserves respect.
Everyone deserves to feel included.

Let’s keep building a New England community where difference is welcomed, not judged.

💬 What does inclusion mean to you?

🌟 Meet the Team – Chantelle 🌟

We’re excited to introduce one of our wonderful support workers, Chantelle!

Chantelle says what she enjoys most about her role is helping people find their way in the world and really getting to know each person so she can support them in the way that works best for them. Since moving to Armidale just four months ago, she’s loved becoming part of our team and the wider local community.

📚 She’s passionate about reading and literacy, and believes that reading widely helps build empathy, understanding and critical thinking. We couldn’t agree more.

Fun fact? It’ll come as no surprise that she loves to read, but she also enjoys writing, poetry, theatre, travelling… and spending time with her beautiful border collie, Bonnie 🐾

We’re so grateful to have Chantelle as part of the NESS team!

Sometimes people think disability support is just about shifts, funding and rosters.

For us, it’s about something much bigger.

It’s about helping someone feel confident going to the shops on their own.
It’s about celebrating the small wins that don’t always make headlines.
It’s about families knowing they’re not carrying everything alone.

That’s why we do what we do.

If you’ve ever trusted us to support you or your family, thank you. It means more than you know.

Today marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, delivered in Federal Parliament on 13 February 2008 by Kevin Rudd.

It was a watershed moment for Australia. Acknowledging the deep pain, loss, and injustice experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and an important step toward truth-telling, healing, and reconciliation.

At NESS, we recognise that reconciliation is not just a moment in history. It is an ongoing responsibility to listen, learn, and show respect through our actions, our services, and the way we walk alongside people and communities.

Today, we pause to remember, reflect, and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, dignity, and respect for First Nations peoples.

Looks like Alfie has taken “sleeping on the job” a little too literally 🐶💤

After a big couple of weeks settling into his role as Disability Suppawt Worker, Alfie is recharging the batteries. Long hours of boosting morale, supervising snacks, and providing top-tier emotional suppawt will do that to you.

Rest assured, he’s not slacking off. This is essential paw-formance recovery so he can continue delivering the highest standard of cuddles and tail wags.

We’ll wake him when it’s time for treats. Or walkies. Or literally any noise at all.

Today means different things to different people.

For some, it’s a day of pride and celebration.
For others, it’s a day of loss, pain and reflection.

At NESS, we recognise this complexity and we choose to lead with respect, inclusion and care.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this land and pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

Most importantly, we stand for a community where everyone belongs.
