Whether you're completing your HSC, just starting year 12, or tackling TAFE and uni studies, developing healthy study habits are crucial to maintaining your wellbeing during stressful times.

Here are 6 tips to help you stay healthy and focused while studying:

1. Study with friends or classmates
Studying with friends or classmates is a great opportunity to discuss, challenge each other, and to keep each other motivated.

2. Set up a calm workspace for focussed studying
Creating a specific space free of clutter and distractions will allow you to get in the zone more easily and keep focused on your study material. Just remember to take breaks as well!

3. Practice yoga and meditation
Help your brain to relax and reset before or after an intense study session with some meditation or gentle yoga. You can use an app to guide you or just count your breaths slowly and stretch your body in ways that feel good.

4. Celebrate small wins
Finally understand a concept that was challenging you for weeks? Got a good mark on a practice test? Celebrate those small wins by treating yourself to your favourite snack, taking a break to do something you love, or sharing your win with friends and family so they can celebrate the moment with you!

5. Keep up with hobbies and exercise
Creativity and exercise are great ways to support both physical and mental wellbeing, so don't let them fall to the wayside while studying. Schedule things you love into your study plan to give your brain a much-needed break. Plus, staying active can also help you to keep focused and energetic for longer.

6. Fuel your mind with healthy snacks
Studying is like a workout for the brain, so be sure to fuel it with healthy snacks and nutritious meals. A fruit salad, some nuts, or carrot sticks with hummus are a great place to start for an easy, healthy study snack!

headspace also offers a number of Work & Study Support options, so if you need a little extra support or someone to chat to about studying or your future, reach out via 6738 7200 or visit https://headspace.org.au/work-and-study-support.

It’s National Carers Week - a time to celebrate the incredible dedication of Australians who care for family and friends!🫂

If you're supporting a young person through their mental health journey, remember that looking after your own wellbeing isn't selfish, it's essential. When you prioritise your own wellbeing, you're better equipped to provide the support your young person needs.

Caring can be emotionally and physically demanding, and it's common to feel overwhelmed at times. It's important to recognise the difference you make, and to seek support when you need it. Taking time out for you helps you stay resilient, maintain perspective and continue being there for your young person in the long term.
