🌟 Congratulations to Hazel, our ARC Gold Star Winner 🌟

Hazel was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) in 2004, a rare condition that can affect hearing, balance, and mobility. Despite these challenges, Hazel continues to inspire us all with her determination and courage.

Since joining weekly ARC MRI sessions in April, Hazel has noticed a big boost in her confidence. She’s been committed to her home exercise program—focusing on balance, strength, and vestibular training—which has opened new doors in her independence.

✨ Some of Hazel’s incredible wins include:

🌟 Putting on her earrings and necklace independently
🌟 Climbing six flights of stairs with support
🌟 Walking confidently through a crowd of 7,000 people at an ice-skating show with her partner, Paul (pictured)

Hazel and Paul previously taught Tai Chi together, and her ultimate goal is to return to assisting in Tai Chi teaching—a dream we know she’s working steadily toward.

Keep up the good work Hazel! 💙

🎉 A huge congratulations to our very own physios, Kumbelin and Sarah T! 🎉

We’re very proud to share that they’ve been named finalists in the APA Physio PITCHFEST 2025 for their incredible innovation – the Plasticise App.

PITCHFEST celebrates ideas that address unmet clinical needs and improve patient wellbeing, and Plasticise does exactly that. The app allows clients to easily access their personalised rehab programs on their phone, helping them continue exercises confidently at home or out in the community.

👏 Well done, Sarah & Kumby – your dedication, creativity and care are making rehab more accessible and effective for our clients!

🧠 This week is Brain Injury Awareness Week — an important opportunity to raise awareness, share stories, and celebrate the resilience of people living with brain injury.

The theme this year, “Invisible disabilities deserve visible change”, is a reminder that not all impacts of brain injury can be seen. Challenges with thinking, memory, mood, or fatigue may be hidden — but the need for understanding, inclusion, and support is vital.

At Advance Rehab Centre, we are proud to walk alongside people living with brain injury and their families. Through our specialist physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, speech therapy, hydrotherapy and psychology services, we help individuals work toward their goals — whether that’s regaining independence, building confidence, or finding new ways to stay connected in the community.

💙 This week, we recognise the remarkable individuals who inspire us every day with their strength, determination, and achievements.

Last week, our CEO Dr Melissa McConaghy, was honoured with the ‘Most Outstanding Neurological Physiotherapist’ award at the Enablement Awards.

While this recognition was given to her, she has dedicated it to the entire Advance Rehab Centre team. Every day, our clinicians and support staff show up with unwavering commitment — advocating, guiding, supporting, and treating our patients, even in the face of challenges within the NDIS sector.

This award is a reflection of the passion, innovation, and dedication that drives everyone at ARC. 🧡

Congratulations team — what an incredible achievement to be recognised in this way!

🌟 Congratulations to Tracy for her Gold Star Award and for attending her first Neuro Gym group class at ARC! 🌟

Tracy suffered a brain aneurysm in 2020 and re-engaged with ARC services in November 2024 after a 2-year break. She was regularly attending Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in the clinic before being referred to Exercise Physiology in March 2025.

Tracy completed a once weekly block of EP for 10 weeks where she worked hard every session, encouraged by her daughter Sam and support worker Carly. Over the course of this block, Tracy significantly improved her 5 x sit to stand result from 21 seconds to 12.8 seconds. Sam and Carly have also reported improvements with many activities of daily living outside of the clinic!

Tracy then progressed to trialling a Neuro Gym group class with assistance from Sam and Carly. Tracy’s trial was very successful, and she has since been attending regularly once weekly classes for the past month. Congratulations Tracy! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

Well done to everyone involved in the 2025 event 💜
