REST with Carolyn

REST with Carolyn Gentle, nurturing rest-based wellness treatments and custom events for women My massage, sound, soundbaths and group events are a time for recovery. To regroup.

The intention behind my events, classes and reTREATs is for you to relax, rest and recentre. If you are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or feel guilty for taking time for yourself, I support you to feel deeply nurtured and cared for. To just stop and 'be' before you drift back to your personal life. They can't change the external factors that create your stress, tension, anxiety, pain or overwhelm

, but they can slowly help you shift and heal; giving you and your body and mind a fresh start: a chance to rest and recentre. I invite you to join me! Carolyn x

Please note: while my signature deep relaxation hot stone and sound sessions at my studio are for women only, my soundbath meditations are open to everyone.

If you've made it all the way up here… I'm glad you stayed.

I want to be honest with you about something.

I'm not really on Facebook anymore.

Not because I don't care, but because I do.

I care too much about doing this work well to spend my energy performing it online.

The women I work with are exhausted by the noise.
By the scroll.
By the constant stream of content that promises everything and asks for your attention in return.

I didn't want to add to that.

So I've stepped back.

I've chosen to show up more quietly, in places where real connection is actually possible.
Where I can sit with you properly, without an algorithm deciding whether you see me.

That's where I am now.

And if what you've found in this series has felt like something;
If something here has quietly said yes, this is it...

I'd love for you to follow that feeling somewhere it can actually go somewhere.

Hi lovely,

There's a version of self-care that somehow adds to your to-do list.

I'm not interested in that.

And if you're a little sceptical - that makes sense. You've probably been here before.

Because most advice for tired, overwhelmed women sounds like this:
'Wake up earlier.'
'Create a morning routine.'
'Be more consistent.'
'Just prioritise yourself.'

And maybe you've tried.
Maybe you did the routine for a week.
Maybe you set the alarm.
Maybe you made the plan.

And then life happened, as it always does, and the whole thing quietly collapsed.

That's not failure. That's just the wrong fit.

Here's what I don't do:
No rigid routines you have to protect at all costs.
No pressure to optimise your rest or do it properly.
No waking up earlier. Please, no.
No overhauling your life to make space for it.

And here's what I do instead:
I help you find rest in the life you already have.
In the margins of an ordinary day.
In the small, unglamorous pockets of time that already exist.

Because rest that only works when everything goes to plan… isn't really rest at all.

If you've been waiting for an approach that finally fits around your real life, rather than asking your real life to fit around it...

You're in the right place.

'ICan I say something that might sound a little wrong at first?

You don't need more time to feel better.

I know, I know. Bear with me.

Because I hear it all the time (and I've said it myself):
'I just need things to get through this next [day, week, month, year... decade...].'
'I'll rest when the kids are older.'
'Once this season passes, I'll finally have space.'
'I'll just wait for warmer weather...'

But here's what I've noticed, for myself and for the women I work with:
The calm season rarely comes.

And even when it does… the habit of pushing through is still there.
Waiting.
Ready to fill the silence with the next urgent thing.

So if time isn't the answer, what is?

It's not more hours. It's a different relationship with the hours you already have.

Relief doesn't live on the other side of a quieter life.
It lives in the way you meet a Tuesday afternoon.
In the three minutes you choose to actually sit down.
In the moment you decide, just for now, that you are enough, and you've done enough, and you can stop.

You don't have to wait for your life to get easier to start feeling better.

You can begin right here. Right now. In the middle of all of it.

Hi lovely,

I want to share what real women are saying: not dramatic transformations, just quiet, honest shifts.

💛 Brandice
'This book reads less like a self-help book and more like a deep exhale you didn't realise you'd been holding… a permission slip for women who are tired of pushing through, tired of 'earning' rest, and tired of being everything to everyone.'

💛 Clarissa Miller
'If you've been running on empty but calling it 'fine,' this book feels like permission to slow down without guilt. And honestly, that's refreshing.'

💛 K.A.
'I finished this book feeling lighter, calmer, and far more human.'

These aren't women who overhauled their lives.

They didn't go on retreat. They didn't find extra hours in the day.

They just gave themselves permission to rest: differently.

And something shifted.

If you've been waiting for proof that this is worth trying… maybe this is it.

Hi lovely,

Let me tell you about Sarah.

Sarah never meant to burn out.

She just wanted to get through the week, keep her family in clean underwear, and maybe even find time to wash her hair.

But one day her coffee mug stopped cooperating. And she realised something was off.

She wasn't just tired. She was empty: mentally, emotionally, spiritually (and probably electrolytically 😏).

Armed with a deeply suspicious relationship with downtime, a colour-coded planner, a laundry pile auditioning for Everest, and a rest coach she wasn't entirely sure she believed in… Sarah set out on a wildly unscientific experiment.

What if rest isn't failure? What if it's how you come back to yourself?

That's the book I wrote.

Not another book telling you to wake up at 5am and journal in a sunbeam.

A book for women who want real rest, in real life. The kind with laundry piles and group chats you mute but never leave and quick favours that eat your whole afternoon.

Somewhere under all that busy is a woman who misses herself.

This book is for her.

Side effects may include spontaneous naps, snort-laughs, and a life you actually want to be awake for.

Hi lovely,

You don't need more advice.
Or another list of things to try.

You need to know what's actually true for you right now.

Because not all rest is the same.

Sometimes it's not sleep you're missing… it's space. Or softness. Or a moment where no one needs anything from you.

So I created something simple for you.

A gentle quiz: 'What type of rest do you actually need?'

Just ten questions.
No right answers.
No overthinking required.

Just a quiet, honest look at what your body is asking for right now.

When you're done, you'll walk away with:
– The type of rest you need most right now
– Your personal rest pattern
– One tiny rest ritual you can start today

Think of this as your starting point: a way of knowing before you commit to anything more.

Nothing overwhelming. Nothing you have to carve hours out for.

Just something that fits into the life you already have.

💛 Take the quiz here → [www.thegreatrestexperiment.com/quiz]. It only takes a few minutes, and it might be the kindest thing you do for yourself today.

Before we go any further… I want to share a few things I wish someone had told me sooner.

Because so much of what we've been taught about rest just isn't true.

And it might be the reason you're still so tired.

💛 You're not broken: you're overloaded.
There's nothing wrong with you. You're carrying a lot. More than most people see, and the exhaustion makes sense.

💛 You don't have to 'fix' everything before you rest.
Your to-do list will never be finished. The house will never be perfectly tidy. Waiting for the right moment means waiting a long time.

💛 Rest can happen in between everything else.
Not in a weekend away. Not in a two-hour bath. In the three minutes before an appointment. In the pause before you answer the next question.

💛 Small moments still count.
Five minutes of stillness. One slow cup of tea. A moment where you actually taste your food. These aren't nothing. They're everything.

💛 Rest isn't a reward: it's a resource.
You don't earn rest by suffering enough first. It's not the prize at the end of a hard day. It's what helps you get through it.

You deserve to feel better. Not eventually. Now.

💛 Save this post, and when you're ready for more, everything is waiting for you up there. ↑

I believe you deserve to feel good. Not someday. Not when everything is done. Not when everyone else is taken care of.

Now. In the middle of your real, full life.

I believe you are strong and capable… but also open to being soft. Feminine. Human.

I believe rest isn't something you earn after exhaustion. It's a way of saying: I matter too.

That your life isn't just about getting through the list.

It's about joy, pleasure, little moments of fun, and a quiet sense of purpose that belongs to you.

Even in the small things. (Especially in the small things).

Because those are the moments that make a life.

If this way of living feels like something your body is quietly craving… you're in the right place.

💛 I invite you to follow along: there's a whole world waiting for you above. ↑

Hi lovely

If you've been feeling the urge to disappear… to pack a bag, a book, a stash of chocolate and leave your life behind (even just for a little while)…

I want to gently offer you a different way.

I work with women over 40 who are holding a lot. Caught between their kids and their ageing parents.

Exhausted.
Overwhelmed.
Wired but tired.
A little bit lost.

You know something is missing… but you don't have the time or energy to escape it all.

No retreats.
No weekends away.
Not even a couple of uninterrupted hours.

So instead, we find another way.

A way to create small pockets of relief in the cracks of your day.

In between the laundry, the 'what's for dinner?' decisions, and the cat throwing up on the carpet (again).

This work matters to me because I'm living it too.

I'm right there with you: juggling young adult kids, 90-year-old parents, and a cat that throws up on the carpet and loves to bring in 'presents', while building a life I genuinely love.

And no, I don't rest perfectly. But I do rest.

Sometimes it's a few pages of a book before bed (actually who am I kidding, it's more than a few pages!). Sometimes it's five quiet minutes with my legs up the wall.
Sometimes it's sitting in a patch of sunshine with my feet in the grass.
Sometimes it putting on a favourite dance tune and dancing around the house like no-one's watching (except may the cat, and even then she's not that impressed) 😂

Small things. Real things. Things that help me come back to myself.

And you deserve that too.

This time last month I was riding the high of sharing my book to a group of friends and family.

It was a beautiful day in a beautiful, aligned setting (thankyou at ) for helping to make it such a special event.

For everyone who turned up (esp those who got lost because I gave the wrong address🤦‍♀️) thankyou so much for coming and celebrating this with me 😍

This is the start of something new, exciting and scary for me but it feels right and I can't wait to share it with you.

Much love
Carolyn x

welcome to RASA wellbeing

I help women who are stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or feel guilty for taking time for themselves, feel deeply nurtured and cared for. My aim for every session is to create space for women to love and honour themselves through massage and bodywork.

A rasa (Sanskrit: रस, Malayalam: രാസ്യം) literally means juice, essence or taste; the 'flavour' of something that evokes an emotion or feeling that cannot be described.

My hope is that through the deep relaxation treatments I offer, you experience a feeling or emotion that cannot be described ... the essence or bliss that is you. All it takes is one session, once a month to keep you on track to returning to the best version of you: relaxed, confident, pain free, positive and full of energy …
