allied health hub ( 5 consultation rooms, an exercise rehab gym and bigger clinical Pilates studio). We still utilise a room and the hydrotherapy pool at Ascot Vale Leisure Centre where we were based prior to our current site for 14 years. Did you know babies feet contain cartilage rather than bones? In fact, the last bone in the foot doesn’t start forming until children are about three years old. Most foot bones are fully formed by eighteen years of age. This is just one of the reasons that correctly fitting and supportive footwear that is appropriate for the stage of development is imperative to foot health. Correctly fitting and activity appropriate shoes help in reducing or preventing foot deformities and foot issues for adulthood.
At all ages, there should be at least a thumb width of room between the end of the toes and the end of the shoe – our tip is to remove the liner of your child’s shoe to assess this regularly as they grow.
If you’re concerned about your child’s feet, posture, or the way they walk, our podiatrists Kath and Jake are here to help. With gentle care and expertise in children’s foot health, we’ll check things over and give you peace of mind.

Our podiatrists Kath & Jake are very experienced in treating kids (and Kath has two little ones of her own!). We commonly see kids at In Stride for:
- Pain such as Severs (heel pain), shin splints, sporting injuries
- Foot posture issues – in-toeing (pigeon toed), out-toeing, feet that roll in (pronation), flat foot
- Toe issues – curly or overlapping toes, bunions, clawing toes
- Nail issues – ingrown, fungal or split toenails
- Skin conditions including plantar warts (verruca), tinea, overly sweaty feet
- Footwear advice and orthotics (usually off the shelf devices rather than custom made)
- Toe walking
- Developmental delays in walking

🍽️ National Diabetes Week | 13th–19th July
At In Stride Health Clinic, we’re shining a spotlight on how smart nutrition can play a powerful role in managing and preventing type 2 diabetes.
🥦 Let’s talk food and blood sugar:
🔹 Carbs aren’t the enemy — choosing the right type and right amount matters most.
• Go for low GI carbs like rolled oats, grainy bread, sweet potato, and legumes to keep energy stable.
• Limit refined options (like white bread and sugary snacks) that can spike your blood sugar and leave you crashing later.
🔹 Pair your carbs with protein and fibre
• This helps slow digestion and keeps your blood glucose levels steady.
• Think: brown rice + grilled chicken + veggies, or fruit + Greek yogurt + chia seeds.
🔹 Don’t skip meals — especially breakfast!
• Eating regularly helps prevent big swings in blood sugar, energy, and appetite.
🔹 Be label smart
• Keep an eye on added sugars, especially in snack bars, yoghurts, sauces and drinks. If sugar is in the top 3 ingredients – it’s probably worth rethinking.
