It is not uncommon for women to get an increase in headaches or migraines during the menopause transition. Fluctuating hormones can play havoc with migraines, especially in those women who get headaches associated with menstrual cycle changes. There are many options for treatment and this does sometimes require a combination of therapies. As with all headaches, try to optimise sleep, movement, healthy and regular meals and reduce stress. There are many treatments available for acute headaches and options to prevent headaches. Hormonal treatment options can also help many women. I recommend seeking an experienced health practitioner to help you navigate the options and improve this silent but disabling symptom of menopause.
