It is not uncommon for women to get an increase in headaches or migraines during the menopause transition. Fluctuating hormones can play havoc with migraines, especially in those women who get headaches associated with menstrual cycle changes. There are many options for treatment and this does sometimes require a combination of therapies. As with all headaches, try to optimise sleep, movement, healthy and regular meals and reduce stress. There are many treatments available for acute headaches and options to prevent headaches. Hormonal treatment options can also help many women. I recommend seeking an experienced health practitioner to help you navigate the options and improve this silent but disabling symptom of menopause.

Did you know that bowel cancer rates are increasing in young people in Australia? It is now recommended to start screening from age 45 and you can request your free kit online at ncsr.gov.au. It is a simple, quick and painless test that you do in the comfort of your own home. These kits are screening tests for people without symptoms. If you have concerning symptoms like abdominal pain, blood in poo, change in bowel habit or weight loss, you should see your GP instead.

A new guideline has been released by the British Menopause Society that has suggested concerns around potential for Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy to impact the absorption of hormones taken by mouth (tablets, capsules etc). The concern is that these hormones may become less effective so there are recommendations to consider altering the hormone regime. If this is your situation, I would recommend checking with your doctor about whether any changes need to be made. Guideline is here:https://thebms.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/23-BMS-TfC-Use-of-incretin-based-therapies-APRIL2025-C.pdf
