DETOXING TIPS FOR SUCCESS

If sugar is your challenge…
Start by switching artificial and processed sugars. Instead, try natural sweeteners such as raw organic honey, organic maple syrup, stevia and dried fruit such as dates .

For chocolate cravings, try products made from raw cacao and coconut oil and sweetened with coconut syrup or rice malt syrup. Some of our favourite brands include Ombar, Loving Earth and Pana Chocolate.

If caffeine is your challenge…
Firstly, know that it’s not forever, but say goodbye to anything caffeinated for your set period of time on your detox journey. Instead opt for drinks such as coconut water, fresh fruit or veggie juices, fresh smoothies, herbal teas and of course loads of clean, filtered water to flush out the toxins.

If alcohol is your challenge…
Trying to stay away from social situations while you're cleansing can be hard but it doesn't have to be boring! Opt for sparkling mineral water with fresh lime, strawberries or mint when you’re out. You’ll be surprised that if you don’t make a song and dance about being deprived of alcohol, no one will actually notice! At nightime, switch your glass of red for a sleepy girl (or guy) mocktail. Simply mix 1 part tart cherry juice with 2 parts sparkling water and have alongside your nightly magnesium for a restful sleep!

Bonus tip - incorporating fresh fruit and vegetables into your cleanse is a surefire way to help reset your system. If you don't like the idea of eating plates and plates of vegetables, try a greens powder each morning - they're packed full of antioxidants and potent vitamins and minerals to help cleanse the body whilst giving you a much needed energy boost!

Happy detoxing!

ACID VS. ALKALINE - What's the difference? 🥦🥕🥑🍋

For our body to maintain a state of equilibrium, we need to ensure our acid/alkaline balance is in check. Unfortunately, this balance is easily displaced by many factors such as stress, lifestyle and environmental toxins. These factors, along with consuming a diet high in acid-forming foods, send the body into acid overload, resulting in inflammation, pain and a paving the way for many diseases to occur.

Here are some common acid and alkaline forming foods.

ACID-FORMING FOODS
Sugar; processed and refined foods; yeast products; fermented foods; grains; artificial-sweeteners; some fruit (unripe bananas, mandarin, pineapple, pomegranate, raspberries); mushrooms; alcohol; coffee; chocolate; black tea; soft drink; dairy products (including milk, cheese, cream, yoghurt, margarine etc); meat (however if you purchase organic, grass-fed meat it is not as big of a problem).

ALKALINE-FORMING FOODS
All vegetables (with the exception of mushrooms); some fruit (avocado, tomato, watermelon, lime, lemon, figs, coconut, cherries, ripe bananas); sprouted seeds; almonds; pine nuts; coconut oil; sesame oil; lima beans; soy beans; almond milk.

Did you know that during any detox, your diet should be comprised of 70-80% alkaline foods in order to decrease inflammatory pathways and maintain optimal health. 😉
