NSW POLICE LAUNCH "POLAIR-REMOTE" - AN AUSTRALIAN FIRST POLICING CAPABILITY.
NSW Police is officially launching PolAir-Remote which will boost police resources in the state's regional areas.

PolAir Remote is a collaboration between Aviation Command and Technology and Communication Services Command which will see remotely-piloted drones being used to assist police in responding to and investigating incidents.

The use of drones will allow regional police to utilise aerial assets without the need for an on-site pilot. Instead, the drones will be remotely piloted from a "Remote Operations Centre" at Bankstown Airport, with real time video being fed back to operational police in regional NSW.

Moree is the first location in which the drones have been installed and trialled to support frontline police in preventing, disrupting and responding to criminal activity.

Since their installation on the rooftop of Moree Police Station last January, two drones have been activated to coordinate successful responses and arrests for assaults, break-ins, vehicle recoveries and have also assisted during an Operation Soteria surge.

The drones will also assist police in providing situational awareness during public safety incidents and other emergencies, including search and rescue operations and missing people searches.

The drones are housed in a small self-contained "hangar" from whence they can launch, land and recharge.

The trial in Moree will run for six months with the technology set to expand to other regional locations in future.

Editor's note: why base the drone command centre in Bankstown? This would have been a golden opportunity to create more jobs in the regions by basing this remote drone operation centre at one of the regional airports - more citi-centric thinking by the Minns Government.

Well then, this rain could be absolutely epic for SEQLD & NENSW between Thursday - Sunday. Forecast data is getting very confident that widespread rain & storms are definitely coming this week!
It looks like most falls of 50 to 100mm are locked in, for some areas much higher totals of 100 to 300mm are possible... I'll happily take 200 with open arms what about you???

NOTE: The big totals will shift around yet depending on exactly where the strong trough and low develop inland. So stay tuned here for heaps more updates to come!
