Hi! my name is John Connolly and I have recently joined Tony and the team at Inline Physio Ashgrove as Senior Physiotherapist.

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and provide some background on my clinical interests.

I have over 6 years of clinical experience and a strong interest in musculoskeletal presentations, with particular focus on low back and neck pain, as well as the rehabilitation of post-operative patients.

I am a keen soccer player, this season playing for Kingscliff, so I also enjoy working with the sporting community and sports-injury rehabilitation.

My approach is centred on evidence-based treatment, patient education, and functional rehabilitation to help individuals return to their goals as efficiently as possible.

Introducing our newest addition to the Inline Physio Ashgrove Team, John Connolly!

With experience across private practices and multidisciplinary clinics in both Australia and the UK, John has always been drawn to the power of musculoskeletal rehab, helping people recover from injury, move with ease, and get back to the things they love most.

John's approach to Physiotherapy is based on a simple belief: movement is medicine. John's style combines hands-on treatment - to get joints moving, muscles relaxing and neural tissue desensitised - targeted exercise to rehab and maintain your recovery, and down-to-earth education to create lasting change.

He wants every person he works with to feel stronger, more confident, and in control of their recovery.

Alongside one-on-one care, He has led both individual and small-group Clinical Pilates, using it as a powerful tool to improve strength, stability, and function.

What drives John?
Supporting people to move better, feel better, and live life on their terms. Whether that means returning to sport, managing a chronic condition, or simply navigating daily life with less pain and more confidence. John's focus is always on practical, tailored care that fits the individual.

🚨 Achilles pain? Here’s the latest rehab research! 🦶✨

A fresh study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine by Lauren Pringels et al (2025) found that exercises that avoid deep ankle bending (low compression) had better outcomes than the usual “drop‑off‑the‑step” moves (high compression) for insertional Achilles tendinopathy.

What they did:
🔹 6‑month program, 42 adults.

🔹 Same strength plan, but one group kept their heel raises from a horizontal starting position (low squeeze) while the other dropped their heels over a step (high squeeze).

🔹 Results:
⚡️ Low‑compression crew doubled their pain‑to‑function improvement.

💪 8 in 10 felt “much better” vs only half in the high‑compression group.

🔥 Fewer flare‑ups along the way.

Take‑away:
1. If the back of your heel hurts where the tendon meets the bone, talk to a physio about how best to start loading your achilles with a low-compression rehab plan.

2. Start heel‑raise exercises on flat ground and add a slight heel lift - skip the big drop‑offs until things settle.
