I’ve started a facial chemo treatment for skin cancer. It does the job, but it also makes my whole face go red and blotchy. So if you see me looking a bit like a tomato on Zoom, now you know why 😂.

I was just asked how I would work with a client who doubts their career goals.

My answer:

If they don’t believe in their potential, it’s because they’ve been lying to themselves—and I say that with love.

Most of the time, when someone says they’ve lost direction or passion, it’s not because they don’t have potential. It’s because they’ve been avoiding something. Avoiding fear. Avoiding failure. Avoiding being seen trying really hard at something they might not be instantly good at.

And no amount of goal-setting, journalling, or vision boards will help if they’re not willing to tell the truth.

The truth is:
👉 They’re scared of what they might lose if they go all in.
👉 They’re clinging to the comfort of self-doubt because at least it’s familiar.
👉 They want the confidence to come before the action—but it doesn’t work like that.

I don’t spend a lot of time hyping people up. I show them what’s really standing in their way. Not their boss. Not the job market. Not even their lack of clarity.

It’s them.

And yes, that might sting. But it’s also the most empowering realisation they’ll ever have—because if they’re the problem, they also get to be the solution.

That’s when things change. Not when someone gives them a pep talk, but when they stop bullsh*tting themselves and start choosing courage over comfort. Clarity comes from movement, not thinking.

So how do I help people believe in their potential?

I don’t.
I help them see what’s in the way.

Then I walk beside them while they prove their old story wrong.
