📝 Action-Oriented Tools

Create a Routine
Structure can be stabilising when emotions are turbulent. Start with something small: wake up, shower, breakfast—consistency builds momentum.

Set Tiny Goals
Make goals ridiculously small: “Get out of bed.” “Brush teeth.” Celebrate them. They’re not too small if they help you move forward.

Gratitude Journal
Each day, write down 1 thing that you are grateful for, or 1 thing you’re curious about. This trains your brain to look for possibilities, not just problems.

💬 Connection & Support

Talk to Someone
A trusted friend, family member, therapist, or support group can be a lifeline. You don’t have to go through this alone.

Limit Isolation
Even if it’s just being in a public place or talking to a pet, contact matters.

Professional Help
Mental health professionals can provide support.

Let's talk about dissociation, a process where your mind disconnects from your thoughts, feelings, or memories. While it's a common and natural response to stress, it can become a concern when it's frequent and intense.

Common signs include:

- Feeling spaced out or numb.
- Not remembering parts of your day.
- Feeling disconnected from your body or surroundings.

Dissociation is a survival strategy, not something you choose. It's your brain's way of protecting you from overwhelming situations.

If this sounds familiar, our team can help you understand your experiences, build grounding skills, and work toward a stronger sense of self.

🧘‍♀️ Mind & Body Tools

Grounding Techniques
When the future feels overwhelming, bring yourself back to the present. Use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique (5 things you see, 4 things you can touch, etc.).

Mindfulness or Meditation
Apps like Headspace or Insight Timer offer short guided sessions that help bring calm and clarity when you're spiraling.

Move Your Body
Exercise, even a short walk, releases endorphins. It doesn’t fix everything, but it does create a shift in brain chemistry that can help.

Mental Shifts & Perspective

Practice Self-Compassion
Speak to yourself the way you would to a close friend going through something hard. It's okay to not be okay, and that doesn’t make you weak.

Challenge Negative Thoughts
Write down hopeless thoughts and examine the evidence for and against them. Are they facts or feelings? This is the foundation of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

Shift Focus to What You Can Control
Hopelessness often grows from feeling helpless. Ask: What’s one small thing I can do today? Small wins matter.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Stan Steindl, a highly respected Clinical Psychologist, author, researcher, and podcaster, at our practice. Dr. Steindl shared valuable insights on finding motivation for change.

Finding it difficult making change? Ask yourselves these questions.
1) What would you like to change?
2) What are the three best reasons for making this change?
3) What makes this change really important to you?
4) If you were to make this change, how would you go about it?

What will you do today to start your journey?

Ever wondered what's going on inside your amazing brain? Take a peek at the four main lobes, each playing a crucial role in who we are and how we experience the world!

Frontal Lobe: Located at the front of your head, this is your brain's control centre. It's involved in executive functions such as planning, decision-making, problem-solving, and even your personality. Think of it as the CEO of your brain.

Temporal Lobe: Located on the sides of your head, the temporal lobes are primarily involved in memory, processing auditory information (hearing), and language comprehension. It helps you understand sounds and words, and plays a big part in forming memories.

Parietal Lobe: Situated behind the frontal lobe, the parietal lobe is your sensory superstar! It processes information like touch, temperature, pain, and spatial awareness. It helps you understand where your body is in space and navigate your surroundings.

Occipital Lobe: Found at the back of your head, this lobe is dedicated to vision. It receives and interprets information from your eyes, allowing you to see and understand the world around you.
