A couple of weeks ago I had a migraine. First one for over 10 years (as far as I can remember). Not only lack of water, probably hormones and stress as drivers but my neck was put.
An assessment by my osteo - losing too much muscle strength. I know this is an issue for me and women of my age (thanks ) but I had dropped off my normal weight training before Christmas and not really been able to get back into a routine. So here’s what I’m doing:
- squats and lunges while brushing my teeth for leg strength
- YTW and other upper body work while the kettle boils
- walking daily

It’s not much, but it’s a start, and using the time that is available. No more excuses. Because I don’t want another migraine, I don’t want to lose any more muscle- I need it for brain health, blood sugar regulation and because I miss feeling strong.

Yes that’s right. increases the risk of melanoma and other cancers. This is the story of an old school friend of mine. She is quite open about her endo and wanted me to share her story…
She had noticed a pimple on her knee that just wasn’t going away. Didn’t think much of it, certainly didn’t think to mention it to her health practitioners! Until she listened to a talk about Endo by UNSW (https://soundcloud.com/unsw-1/medconnect-endometriosis-behind-the-pain). We had been chatting about it and she mentioned how while there wasn’t a lot new to her (having the lived experience for the years), her ears did prick up when she heard about the cancer risk.
Suddenly that spot on her knee felt more significant and she spoke to her GP. And thank goodness she did. Biopsy done and a cute scar is what she has been left with. Had she left it, who knows what might have happened?
Understanding that endometriosis means watching and understanding what’s going on across the whole body. Not underestimating the immune impacts. Appreciating there’s more going on and that combination requires a personalised approach to care and symptom improvement.

A conversation with a friend + some practitioner training led me down a weird and wonderful path of what else is going on in the body of someone with . It is such a complex disease state, with so many associated conditions. The level of inflammation, pain, bleeding and other experiences cannot be explained by any one single thing, certainly not the "grade". But diagnosis, while getting easier with high resolution ultrasound, is still a long time coming for many who suffer. Take a look through the list. It's a lot, and might explain some of what's going on with someone you love.

Many women are treated repeatedly for thrush, yet the pattern never really changes.
Often, the issue isn’t infection. It’s a vaginal environment that’s lost resilience influenced by hormones, stress, and immune balance.
Labels don’t heal. Learning, understanding and addressing the drivers. That's what brings about healing. Emotionally AND physically.

I love adding (and prescribing) herbs and spices to include in cooking or as a tea:
- sage as a tea or to cook with for and night sweats
- true cinnamon (not the supermarket variety) to help blood sugar levels and reduce sugar cravings
- chamomile and lemongrass for stress
- ginger for circulation, reducing pain and inflammation
- turmeric for inflammation
- any fresh herbs and spices for digestion and healthy microbiome
- garlic for everything!

She told herself it wasn’t that bad.
That other women cope with worse.
That this was just part of getting older.
Until one day, her period soaked through her clothes at work, and suddenly, the story changed.
Heavy, flooding periods that appear in perimenopause aren’t a weakness.
They’re often a sign of shifting hormones and changing ovulation patterns.
Coping quietly doesn’t mean nothing’s wrong.
It just means the body hasn’t been listened to yet.

Yes I know I’m late to the 2016 trend. And honestly, I wasn’t going to bother but then took a look at my photos from that year - it was an exhausting one. And this first photo is the only one of me on my own! My first baby, studying, no sleep for the last 6 months of the year, post natal anxiety, back to work. It was all too much. So I recognise the signs, I work on having balance (yes it’s always a work in progress, definitely not perfect). I am in a much better place today because of it ❤️

She loves her partner
But intimacy feels impossible. The itching, the burning, the discomfort that follows.
She doesn’t say yes, not because she doesn’t want to, but because it’s too much.
Recurring post-intimacy symptoms aren’t imagined. They’re often driven by microbiome imbalance, by hormone, diet and lifestyle influences. They need addressing properly, not only symptom relief but a permanent solution.
