Braeden grew up with his gran and grandad living next door. My dad used to come in and help me wrangle a squirming Braeden into his shoes and his standing frame before he left for work when Braeden was a toddler.

Braeden and his grandad have always shared a really special bond but his grandad now lives in a nursing home thanks to dementia.

Today we went to visit my dad so Braeden could share some birthday cake with him. They never miss a birthday celebration together and my dad has a super sweet tooth😀

Not every visit is a joyous one because of the nature of dementia but today was a great day. Braeden and his grandad shared some lovely moments and it felt like old times (aside from another resident telling them to “shut up!” )😂

If dementia has taught us anything, it’s to appreciate the good days but I guess that should be everyone’s mantra.
