Flu vaccinations are now available at Alice Street Medical Centre.
All Queensland residents over the age of 6 months can access the influenza vaccine for *FREE* again in 2026. We also have the needle-free nasal spray option available for children aged 2-5 years.
Please call Reception on 40913122 to make an appointment.

We’re making it easier than ever to get your flu vax.

The expanded free flu vaccine program includes the Australian-first free nasal spray for children taking out much of the anxiety around the vaccination experience.

It’ll make it easier for clinicians to administer the flu vaccine and ensure more children are protected from influenza.

These are just some of the ways we’re delivering easier access to health services when you need them.

Introducing... Our new GP Registrar Faisal!

Originally from Canada, Faisal completed his medical degree at The University of Queensland before spending time working in Rockhampton and Brisbane. He has now made the move to Far North Queensland and is excited to have become part of the Atherton Tablelands community.

Outside of medicine, you’ll likely find Faisal out on a hiking trail or keeping up with football. He hopes to settle long-term in our region and is looking forward to getting to know our patients and the local community.

Please help us to welcome Dr Faisal to our Alice Street Medical family! And look how happy he was to finally spot his name on our front sign!

Introducing... our new GP Registrar Dr Sophie Wark!

Sophie is a North Queensland local who grew up in Townsville and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from James Cook University in 2022. She then spent two more years working in Townsville as well as time in Weipa, Palm Island and Ayr.

Sophie has been working at Atherton Hospital for the last 12 months and now joins us as a GP Registrar with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

In her spare time Sophie enjoys playing cello (an exciting addition to our A Street Band!), going on walks with her dog Bruce and practicing Martial Arts.

Please help us to welcome Dr Sophie to our Alice Street Medical family.

In February each year, Alice Street Medical holds a 'changing of the guard' where we sadly farewell our outgoing Registrars and introduce our new Registrars for the year ahead.

Dr Jane McDonald has now transferred to Harvey Bay to undertake Anesthetics training and Dr Sam Fitzgerald's next post (after attending the Winter Olympics!) will be in Cairns for General Physician training. I'm sure you'll agree that both Doctors made an incredible impression on our patients and the Tablelands community in the short time they were with us and we wish them the very best in their careers!

We are so pleased to now introduce our new Registrars - Dr Faisal Haider, Dr Sophie Wark and Dr Callum Press! Please help us to make them feel welcome here on the Tablelands.

Today we welcome Dr Callum Press.
After growing up in rural Central Queensland and then the Sunshine Coast, Callum completed his medical degree in 2020 The University of Queensland. Callum then returned to work on the Sunshine Coast for two years before migrating North to work in the Cairns Emergency Department for the last two years. He is currently undertaking his Fellowship training with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

As a keen hiker, Callum is looking forward to exploring the Tablelands hiking trails. He also enjoys running and reading fantasy novels in his spare time. Look out for him at Atherton Parkrun soon!

Congratulations on your Graduation Heidi 🎓🩵

Please join us in celebrating Nurse Heidi this week, who has now graduated with her Master of Nurse Practitioner from The University of Queensland!

This two year, part-time Master's program has provided Heidi with advanced specialist skills in patient assessment and management, including the direct referral of patients to other healthcare professionals, prescribing medications, and other treatments including ordering diagnostic investigations.

Heidi we are so proud and excited to share in this next chapter of your career with you. Thank you for supporting our practice and patients and Atherton Tablelands Community for the past decade as a Registered Nurse and now into the future as a Nurse Practitioner.
