Understanding ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)
β€οΈπ©·π§‘ππππ©΅ππ€π©Άπ€π€
ARFID is a mental health disorder where children are extremely selective eaters, often with little interest in food. Unlike other eating disorders, children with ARFID are not concerned with body image, but may have fears of choking, aversions to food textures, or a lack of appetite. This can lead to poor nutrition, weight loss, or stalled growth.
Symptoms include extreme picky eating, nutritional deficiencies, and sometimes requiring tube feeding. ARFID often occurs in children with conditions like autism, ADHD, or anxiety. Early diagnosis and treatment are key for healthy growth and development.
