It’s so interesting thinking about how important the bio mechanics of stance and positioning are outside of the gym. My first time on a pottery wheel this weekend and I had to constantly consider how my positioning would affect my abilities and outcomes. As well as making sure I didn’t end up giving myself a bad back! Even while wedging. Shoulders, core, split stance. All helped.

I don't meal prep really. I prefer to ingredient prep, often when I am already cooking. That way I have options and not set meals just in case I'm not feeling a specific meal. And I am not spending all Sunday making meals, I will just cook extra bacon and eggs for the week while I am making breakfast, or cook extra veggies while I am making dinner. Simplifying steps makes healthy living less intimidating.

Another practical example from the gym floor. Sometimes oral instruction doesn’t quite do the trick. Even after seeing your trainer demonstrate. Especially when you need to be thinking of your shoulders, neck, head, back, hips, knees….. all at the same time 😵‍💫😵‍💫 So visual aid can be such a help. After demoing again with a broom handle along my back to show proper alignment this client got the hang of stiff leg deadlifts in no time!

Just a little example of exercise modification. All bodies are different, so are abilities. In this case, neither adaptation is more difficult, but we were working on ways to make the exercise more effective and challenging for Amy and Mel and their different bodies. There is a work around for everything, we just have to find the best one for you 💪

Happy Mother’s Day! I am so grateful I have a lot of Mothers who have chosen me to help them achieve a healthier life. Everyday I bear witness to the struggles and joys of Motherhood through stories, hugs, venting and simple knowing looks between us. You make me feel seen, and I hope I do the same for you. One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give you about food it to learn to cook what you love really well in a healthy way. I love Asian food, so I learnt how to silk meat and what flavours make up sauces. My husband is a BBQ guy and it is very rare to find a steak out that measures up to our standards. No jar meal sauces (although I do still enjoy condiments in moderation!), way less takeaway and we know what is in all of our food. Makes choosing healthier options so much easier.
