Information from the Cancer Council website...
'Victoria is on track to be one of the first places in the world to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health issue, as early as 2035. Sustained HPV vaccination coverage is critical in achieving this goal.'
This is amazing, but relies on a high vaccination rate to be achieved. During COVID-19, vaccination rates dropped due to various reasons, and many children missed out.
We offer the HPV vaccine (one dose of Gardasil 9) to eligible people at our 3 clinics. If you/your child missed out, or if you are unsure, speak to our nursing staff and we will assist you in finding out.

We now have blister pack recycle bins at all of our clinics! Please feel free to pop in and drop off your empty packs at any time during our opening hours. If dropping them at Bacchus Marsh, just make sure you put them in the bin and not the fish tank. 😜
There are many benefits of packed medication - if you’d like to find out more, book in and have a chat to your GP, or pop in and see your Pharmacist.

❓A question for the men today, following on from International Men's Day yesterday! 🌏
Do you have a proactive approach to better health? If not, one easy way to start is to keep up with your routine health screening, especially if you're over 40 - if you are, book an appointment with your GP for a routine health check. Your GP will take some obs and your blood pressure at the routine check 🩺, and you may also need a blood test, including but not limited to:
🫀Heart and metabolic health (cholesterol and diabetes checks)
💙Prostate and hormonal health (PSA and testosterone checks)
🫁Liver and kidney function (liver and kidney function checks)
🍀General health (full blood count, vitamin D, and iron studies)
No matter what your age, your GP can organise the right screening for you.
Give us a call on 53673333 or 53671875 to book in. 👨‍⚕️

〰️MOVEMBER〰️is more than just a month where men grow a moustache.
Movember aims to raise funds and awareness about men's mental health, testicular health and prostate health. Too many men are dying before their time and for reasons that are largely preventable - and on average, men die almost 5 years earlier than women.
The Movember website lists 5 things men should know to give themselves the best chance of living a healthy and long life.
1️⃣ Spend time with people who make you feel good. Stay connected with your mates by making time to catch up regularly.
2️⃣ Talk more. Be there for someone, listen, and give your time. It could save a life.
3️⃣ Know the numbers - if you're 50 or over, talk to your GP about your prostate. If you are of African or Caribbean descent, or have a father or brother with prostate cancer, you need to talk to your GP about this from 45 years of age. Know your numbers and know your risk and keep up with your GP appointments.
4️⃣ Know thy nuts - check your testicles! Get to know what's normal, and see your GP if anything feels different.
5️⃣ Move more! Add a bit more activity to your day, whether that be parking further away and walking to your destination, or taking the stairs instead of the lift.
All information is from www.movember.com where you can also donate, if you don't have a mate who is fundraising.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month, where Australians come together to raise awareness and promote better mental health for all. Mental health is a key component for overall wellbeing, but 1 in 5 Australian people will experience a mental illness in any year, and almost half the population have experienced a mental health disorder at some stage in their lives, so there is still a lot of work to do.
For more information on mental health, including stats and tips on management, head to www.blackdoginstitute.org.au or www.beyondblue.org.au, or Google 'mental health tips' for other sites.
If you need to talk to someone about your mental health, you can book in with your GP, or you can contact:
Lifeline - call 13 11 14 or text 0477 131 144
Beyond Blue - call 1300224636
Mensline - call 1300 789 978
Su***de Callback Service - call 1300 659 467
Medicare Mental Health - call 1800 595 212 - this service gives advice and will connect you to local mental health services

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, held in October every year, is a time to focus on the impact of breast cancer and the importance of early detection to save lives. Thanks to advances in detection and treatment, the five-year breast cancer survival rate has improved to 94 per cent! But for early detection to occur, we have to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. They are:
⚪️ a new lump in the breast or armpit
⚪️ thickening or swelling of part of the breast
⚪ irritation or dimpling of the breast skin
⚪ ni**le discharge, pain in the ni**le, or changes in appearance
⚪ pain in any area of the breast
⚪ any change in appearance or size of either breast
If you have any of these symptoms, please book in with your GP for review.

The last of our new GP faces to introduce is Dr Rebecca Webster, who is working from Maddingley Medical Centre for the next 12 months! 🏥
Rebecca's main areas of interest are palliative care, chronic disease management and paediatrics - she has worked at Joan Kirner doing Women's and Children's rotations, and has a Graduate Diploma in Children's Health with Western Sydney Uni. 👶🏾👧
On the weekends, Rebecca loves to seek out the best sushi, keep active by going for runs, and in footy season she goes to as many Western Bulldogs games as she can. She's a passionate Doggies supporter, but will still consult with you if you go for another team. But only because she legally has to. 😜
If you'd like to book a consult with Rebecca, please call our Maddingley Clinic on 53671875.

Introducing another new face at Maddingley Medical Centre - Dr Ferhan Muneeb! 👋🏼
Ferhan has come to us from a clinic in Swan Hill, and is passionate about chronic disease management and primary prevention - for example, helping patients reduce their risk of heart attack and stroke, and other preventable disease. 🫀🧠
When Ferhan is not busy working, he loves to keep active by spending time outdoors, walking and hiking. 🌳🪨🍄⛰
Ferhan's long-term goal is to settle in to one clinic and become a traditional family doctor, providing care from the cradle to the grave. He values continuity of care and hopes to make a meaningful, positive impact on people's lives. 🧑🏻‍⚕️💓
If you would like to book a consult with Ferhan, please call our Maddingley Clinic on 53671875.
