Whether you’re recovering from the flu, shingles or another viral infections, your skin can feel unsettled for a while.
I’ve had quite a few studio guests recently dealing with shingles, flu and other viral illnesses, so I thought sharing this information might be helpful to some of you.😘
If you’ve recently been unwell, you might notice your facial skin feels red, blotchy, or sensitive, especially if you had shingles and had not had the rash on your face.
Here’s what’s happening.
Viral infections affect more than just the area where symptoms appear; they impact your nervous system and immune response.
When your body is under this stress with inflammation, nerve pain, and your immune system working overtime, it can also affect other areas, including your skin.
Here’s why your skin might be reacting.
1: The nerves and skin are closely connected. So, when a viral infection impacts the nervous system, your skin can become reactive and flushed, even without a visible rash.
2: Your immune system goes into overdrive to fight the virus, causing inflammation that can leave your skin red, blotchy, or hot.
3: Even if your face didn’t have any direct symptoms, your skin may feel more sensitive and dry after a viral illness. If you have rosacea, this inflammation and stress can trigger flare-ups, worsening redness and sensitivity.
4: Viral infections can also disrupt your skin barrier, leaving it dry, irritated, and slower to heal.
5: Emotional and physical stress add to this, so recovery often takes time and patience.
Right now, your skin needs calm, gentle care and key ingredients(as not all products are formulated the same) to rebuild its barrier.
If your skin has been feeling unsettled lately, be kind to it. And if you’d like personalised skincare advice or support during this time, I’m here to help. Lindy💚X
