Today our team had the opportunity to learn more about Showroom at Home, a fantastic free in-home assistive technology trial service provided by Unicare. Their fully equipped mobile showroom brings a wide range of assistive technology directly to people’s homes, allowing individuals to trial equipment in the environment where it will actually be used. Equipment that can be trialled includes: • Mobility aids • Wheelchairs • Bathroom safety equipment • Daily living supports Alternatively, equipment can also be trialled during appointments at the ISSWA office — for example trialling a new walker with a physiotherapist in the gym, or trying an adaptive chopping board with one of our OTs in the accessible kitchen. A big thank you to the Unicare team for such an insightful presentation today and for giving us a tour of the mobile showroom van 🚐

ISSWA is very proud to support Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) very first national Red & Yellow Day, a nationwide celebration of the volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and courage to keeping Australia’s beaches safe. As a service provider, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for the people we support to engage in inclusive community activities that promote safety, wellbeing, and social connection.

Red and Yellow Day highlights the vital role of surf lifesavers in keeping our beaches safe, while also reinforcing important water safety messages for all members of the community. We are especially excited about SLSWA’s All Abilities Programmes, which aligns strongly with our mission to promote inclusion, independence, and equal access to community experiences. The All-Abilities program is based around enjoyment, social interaction, water and beach familiarisation, and physical activity, adapted to the unique needs of its participants.

By partnering in these initiatives, we are helping break down barriers to participation and ensuring that the beach — a central part of Western Australian life — is accessible and welcoming to everyone.

I asked Zain where his positive outlook comes from.

His response was the above.

And it stuck with me.

because it was simple.

He shows up to training.
He works hard.
He adapts when things don’t go to plan.
He laughs.
He gets on with it.

because he wants his kids to grow up knowing:
You don’t give up when life throws punches.
You adjust.
You rebuild.
You keep moving.

Zain has been working with Integrated Support Solutions for a while now, and every session he shows up with grit and a smile on his face.
