Last weekend one of our Physiotherapists Ange joined the for an ocean paddle.

At Hurricane they are dedicated to creating a supportive environment for paddlers of all abilities!
Their goal is simple to support paddlers at every level, whether you’re looking to make new friends, try canoeing for the first time or compete!

And this year they launched their Para-Canoe program, focusing on supporting paddlers with physical disabilities as they lay the ground work for the fully adaptive program that is inclusive for all abilities!

We love seeing programs like this in our community ones that celebrate inclusion and possibility. At Integrated Support Solutions, we share a similar belief that disability is not a limitation that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore, connect, and take the dignity of risk in pursuing what lights them up. 💪🌊

✨ Working in the Kimberley looks a little different…
Our team recently spent a week up north putting in long days supporting participants and in between, enjoying a Broome sunset.

It’s a reminder that therapy and support don’t always look the same everywhere, sometimes it’s sitting in a clinic, other times it’s on Country, always centred around the people we’re here to support. 🌿🌅

✨ A Message from Our OT Team ✨

We want to acknowledge and thank two of our OTs, Saskia & Nicole, who have recently chosen to move into new directions outside of the NDIS space.
At ISSWA, we know that careers evolve, and we support our clinicians in following the paths that are right for them.
Our OT team remains strong and committed, continuing to provide innovative, client-centred, and values-driven support to our community.

We’re also excited to share that we have welcomed a new OT to our team, who will be starting in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to introduce her to you soon!

Today is National Su***de Prevention Day. A day to honor those we’ve lost, support those who are struggling, and remind everyone that mental health matters.

So many people are fighting silent battles — battles we may never see. That’s why compassion, connection, and conversation are so important. If you’re struggling, please know that you are not alone. Your pain is real, but so is hope.

Asking for help is not weakness — it’s courage. Talking about mental health doesn’t make us broken — it makes us human.

Let’s use today to check in on our friends, our loved ones, and ourselves. Let’s choose kindness over judgment, listening over fixing, and love over silence.
You are needed. You are loved.

The world is better with you in it. 💛

A few weeks ago, our OT, Physio, and Therapy Assistant teams completed manual handling training with Julie.

Yesterday, we hired the Safe Actions Space to capture photos and videos to update our care plans and develop easy-to-read resources for support staff and family members.

Now comes the big task of sorting through hundreds of photos and clips to turn them into practical guides that support safe, consistent manual handling in everyday practice.

It’s exciting to see training come to life in a way that will have real impact for the people we support.

It’s Brain Injury Awareness Week (18–24 August) and this year’s theme says it all: “Invisible disabilities deserve visible change.”

Brain injury often goes unseen, but the impacts can last a lifetime. Fatigue that hits like a wall, memory or attention difficulties, sensory overwhelm, emotional dysregulation, or just feeling flat and unmotivated.

At ISSWA, we work alongside people living with brain injury, including those involved in the justice system. Too often, their challenges are misunderstood and labelled as “non-compliant”, “aggressive” or “lazy”, when in reality, people are navigating invisible barriers without the right support.
Our team helps people build routines, skills and confidence through meaningful activity – from cooking meals, communicating with others, to reconnecting with valued roles and connecting them with the supports they need.

This week, we want to highlight the amazing work of Synapse - Australia’s Brain Injury Organisation.
Their Reconnections Support Groups (Perth) and practical online resources provide invaluable support for people with brain injury, family members, partners and professionals.

Let’s continue to raise awareness, challenge assumptions, and create visible change.

👏 We’re adapting - and we’re celebrating the wins along the way. 👏

Following on from our recent post, where we shared how ISS WA is responding to the NDIS pricing changes — today we wanted to highlight a real, positive moment from this week.
One of our participants, recently released from prison, visited the ISS WA Hub for the very first time to complete a therapy assistant (TA) session.
Using an easy-read recipe created by his TA, he planned and prepared a batch of Spaghetti Bolognese to eat during the week. He practiced kitchen safety, sequencing, and time management skills - all goals he’s been working towards across previous sessions whilst incarcerated.
Importantly, he also made meaningful connections with other staff in the office, sharing his passion for sport and peer support.
Having access to a safe and supportive space outside the home opens up new opportunities for skill-building, connection, and confidence - and that’s something worth celebrating.
