Netball Champions Cup

On the 20th of August Rivergums qualified to participate in the School Sport Champions Cup for Netball. This competition was for all teams who had won Interschool events across Western Australia. Our girls won the BASSA Netball competition in Term 1.

Our girls were coached by parents Catie and Angela. They were brilliant, creating a team spirit full of encouragement and fun. The girls won 6 games and a draw in their pool. This qualified them as the highest ranked team in their pool.

They then met the eventual winners of the competition in the cross over game.

Congratulations girls on a fantastic carnival, to finish in the top 4 teams across Western Australia is amazing. Your endeavour and dedication to the carnival was excellent. Every game you played made me proud that you were from Rivergums Primary School.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to transport the girls to the carnival and support them on the day.

Below are some reflections from the girls about the carnival.

Mr Smith

Jasmine

During the carnival, all participants displayed great resilience. Each person uplifted valuable skills and a positive attitude. I would like to show great appreciation towards all adults that helped. It was a fun day, and I loved playing with our team

Lucy

It was amazing. There were so many things that I enjoyed, playing, getting away from school and having an awesome time. I enjoyed playing with my friends it was so much fun, and I will never forget it. Thank you to my mother and Angela for coaching us. Also, a ginormous thank you to Mr Smith for organising this competition for us. This wouldn’t have happened without you.

Peyton

I enjoyed watching everyone play in the rain and I would like to thank the parents for taking their children, so we were able to have a full team.

Sophie

The competition was intense and a fun experience. We supported each other and gave our all on the court.

It was an amazing experience and one to remember as our last year at RPS. We worked well together to place first in our division. Thanks to Mr Smith for organising everything and supporting us on the day “Let’s go Rivergums”.

Georgia

I enjoyed playing with my teammates from the BASSA carnival and socialising with some friends that I don’t really talk or play with. Thank you, Mr Smith, Catie, Angela and all the parents who came to watch our team play.

Summer

I enjoyed winning in our pool and being able to play with my team and I would like to thank Jasmine’s mum for taking me.

Elsie

What I’ve enjoyed at netball is when we got together and used our efforts together and played well. My favourite part I enjoyed was that we came in the first 4 team in the state.

Milla

I enjoyed playing netball with everyone and I thought it was fun. I would like to thank all the parents for letting everyone play, and I thank you to Mr Smith for organising the competition and to Catie and Angela for coming and coaching us.

Emily

The competition pushed us beyond our comfort zones, tested our teamwork and helped us grow in ways that go beyond the scoreboard. One thing that we are proud of is how we supported each other, and the team spirit stayed high. It was a tight game. The tournament reminded us on how far we are now and enjoying the games.

Traditional Indigenous Games Carnival – Rivergums Students Shine!

On Thursday, 22nd August, Rivergums students enjoyed a day full of culture, fun, and Aboriginal traditions at the Traditional Indigenous Games Carnival.

The day kicked off with the Dreaming story “How the Moon Gave Us Fire” and five traditional dances. Students joined in the Honeybee Dance, Emu Dance, and Celebration Dance, and participated in a Smoking Ceremony before moving to the playing field. They also got creative with Traditional Aboriginal Art, making yarn decorations and a collaborative artwork.

The sporting activities included Meetcha Boma, Edor, Jumpinpin, and Buroinjin. Lunch featured kangaroo, chicken, and ham rolls, along with fruit salad and chocolate brownies. Rivergums finished equal 5th place, with all students receiving goody bags and posing for a team photo. A curious Quenda (Western Australian bandicoot) near the bus added a fun finale to a memorable day celebrating Aboriginal culture.
