Consumers should be aware of unscrupulous Hearing Aid providers

The ACCC has been investigating false and misleading representation made by hearing aid manufactures/retailers
in their advertisements, especially, in adverts directed to pensioners who are eligible for the Australian Government Hearing Services Program. Below is the link to the ACCC findings.

Lack of independence equals lack of choice

Many hearing clinics are owned by hearing aid manufacturers or global retail chains and are masked under unrelated trading names. They are biased towards their brands and therefore offer limited choices in hearing devices. Their staff are set sales targets and are incentivised to sell the owners products whilst instructed to not disclose this relationship to their clients.

When visiting a hearing care provider, ask the Audiologist if the clinic is owned and operated by an international hearing aid manufacturer or conglomerate chain. This may explain their recommendation of fitting a particular brand of hearing device.
