Your NDIS questions answered! πŸŽ‡

Navigating your way through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia can be challenging, especially if you're new. We're here to break down this process to help you gain the support you need πŸ™Œ

"How do I apply for the NDIS?" πŸ€”

To apply for the NDIS, you will need to:

πŸ‘€ Check eligibility: Use the NDIS eligibility checklist on their website or speak to a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to confirm if you qualify. πŸ‘‰ https://bit.ly/3IdSWeO πŸ‘ˆ

πŸ“ƒ Provide documentation: You'll need to provide evidence of your disability and how it affects your daily life, such as medical reports or a letter from a doctor.

πŸ“¨ Submit an application: You can apply via email, over the phone, or post.

🀝 Planning meeting: Once your application is approved, you’ll have a meeting with a NDIS planner or LAC to create your plan and set your goals.

🏑 Farewell Mary Macauley House, Hello New Beginnings! 🌱

For over 150 years combined, Jenni, Katie, Mark, Sheryl, and Trevor called Mary Macauley House home.

Earlier this year, the residents made the move to two brand-new, purpose-built homes - modern, accessible, and filled with the same spirit of togetherness. πŸ’™

To celebrate, a housewarming was held with family, friends, and special guests including Uncle Shane Clarke and Uncle Mark Brown from the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, as well as Paul Edbrooke MP. 🌟

As Lisa Evans, Scope COO, said:
β€œA home is more than just a place to live – it’s a foundation for a good life.” πŸ—£οΈ

Claire, a client of Scope’s Social Connections program in NSW, has never let her intellectual disability get in the way of her dreams. 🀩

A horse lover and artist from the Southern Highlands region, Claire has always had big stories in her mind – but found it hard to write them down exactly as she saw them. Thanks to the staff at Moss Vale where she attends three days a week, Claire learned how to turn her ideas into written words. πŸ“–

lnspired by the horses she met through pony therapy with Piccolo Ponies, Claire wrote The Sisters of Wombat Hollow -- a magical tale about brave sisters and their journey through forests, fairies, and family secrets. 🌟🧚🌲

Claire had a book launch on the 27th of May, where she invited all her Social Connections friends and community to celebrate her achievement. Claire took the opportunity to announce that she is currently writing more books on her own! ✍️

Moss Vale support worker Kristylee Robertson said, β€œThis support has helped Claire find her stories and meet people who inspire her to write her magical stories.” πŸ—£οΈ

Last week, Scope employees in New South Wales and Victoria celebrated Pride month 🌈 with panel discussions at Kingsgrove and Hawthorn.

Attendees across both sites took advantage of the opportunity to zhush up ✨ their afternoons through a selection of delectable sweets 🍰made by Aspendale Social Connections clients and staff, Kingsgrove SLES clients, and other Scope employees, decorations, pronoun pins to take away, an Acknowledgement of Country in Key Word Sign, and real conversations grounded in lived experience that spilled the tea – metaphorically, not literally.

But the events were more than a celebration – they were part of a call to action for inclusivity through talking about personal experiences of coming out to families and in the workplace.
