🧠 Celebrate Brain Awareness Week 2026!

The brain is at the heart of everything we do — it shapes our thoughts, emotions, memories, and behaviours. It’s also incredibly adaptable, which means we can build new skills, manage stress, and improve our mental health at any stage of life.

Brain Awareness Week is all about exploring the wonders of the brain, understanding how it affects our everyday lives, and promoting mental wellbeing.

At Ballarat Psychology, we’re here to support you in caring for your brain, strengthening resilience, and nurturing lifelong wellbeing. 💙

👋 Meet the Team – Introducing Occupational Therapist: Mackenzie Piper!

Mackenzie is one of our newest Occupational Therapist at Ballarat Psychology Clinic, Get to know her below:

🌱 What inspired you to pursue a career in occupational therapy?
When asked at the end of high school what I wanted to do moving forward I genuinely had no idea, I knew I wanted to help people and that I wanted to be able to take my work wherever I ended up later. Only after some research and work experience did I decide that OT was what I wanted to do. The further I progressed through my university studies more I fell in love with occupational therapy, it’s principles and practices and the difference I could make in people’s lives. So, 4 years later, and lots of late night study session I am able to make that dream a reality!

🎵 What is a fun fact about you that might surprise people?
Fun Fact about me… this is hard, I feel like personally I am a boring person overall. However, prior to discovering occupational therapy, I wanted to be music producer making music for artists and collaborating with other insanely talented and creative individuals. There is a YouTube channel buried somewhere with some of my early creations, however now I song write and produce music, a form of relaxation and journaling getting my thoughts off my mind.

🦸‍♀️ If you could have any superpower to help your clients, what would it be and why?
Superpower that would be amazing to help is being able to speak and understand any language in the world. Communication is a large part of any health profession, being able to speak the language that my clients are most comfortable with would be useful to help put my clients at ease but also allow for genuine connection and communicate more authentically without the language barrier.

Mackenzie brings a thoughtful and client-centred approach to occupational therapy, combining lived experience, clinical knowledge, and genuine compassion to support meaningful outcomes. We’re incredibly lucky to have her on our team!

Some children are bright — but still struggle in school.

They might:

✔️Know the answer but can’t write it down

✔️Avoid tests or become anxious

✔️Do well one day and freeze the next

A psychological assessment helps uncover why this might be happening. Whether it’s ADHD, a learning disorder, or giftedness, we can help you understand your child more clearly — and get the support they deserve.
