2 simple exercises to support your little one’s growth and development 🤍
Early movement experiences play an important role in how babies learn to move, balance and coordinate their bodies. Here are two gentle, play-based exercises you can incorporate into your daily routine:
1. Scrunch releases
The Moro reflex (often called the startle reflex) is a primitive reflex all babies are born with. It usually integrates between around 3–6 months of age.
Scrunch releases can help stimulate your baby’s vestibular system, support adaptation to postural changes, and encourage healthy reflex integration.
Gently bring all four of your baby’s limbs together into a “scrunch,” then release them. It’s a fun, interactive movement that can be added to tummy time or playtime.
2. Midline cross exercise
Cross-midline movements are important for developing balance, coordination and motor skills. They help build connections between the left and right sides of the brain, supporting milestones like crawling, walking, reaching and catching.
Imagine an invisible line down the centre of the body. Encourage one hand to move towards the opposite foot, and then switch sides. As your child grows, this can progress into movements like commando crawling and other cross-body activities.
