Lest we forget all those who served through military service and sacrifice. We also acknowledge those who are currently serving and their families.
Today we remember the immense contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in military service. Contributions that are sadly often overlooked or erased.
We remember our men and women who served and sacrificed their lives in World War I and World War II only to return as second-class citizens, without acknowledgement and without support. Who were marched back to the mission instead of in the parade.
We remember the tens of thousands of our people who died fighting for community and Country during the Frontier Wars. It is because of their bravery and sacrifice that we are here today.
We pay our deepest respects to them and their families. Our warriors were and are β strong, resilient, deadly.
