Many people with high sensory sensitivity, also known as highly sensitive people (HSP) are sensitive to the cyclic hormonal fluctuations and may experience even more sensitivity during the premenstrual phase as well as during the years of peri menopause and menopause.

Those with a highly sensitive nervous system are more likely to be impacted by changing hormone levels as they rise and fall during the menstrual cycle and even more during perimenopause when hormones tend to fluctuate wildly and unpredictably.

This is often also the experience of women or AFAB who are neurodivergent due to increased nervous system sensitivity to hormonal changes.

This isn’t indicative of ‘something being wrong’ with you, it’s your finely tuned system giving you feedback.

There are ways to make it easier to navigate these times of even higher sensitivity, my approach includes nutrition, herbs (where needed), breathwork + focus on grounding, boundaries and other self care supports specific to highly sensitive people.

September is Perimenopause Awareness Month- Your window of tolerance for stress often becomes more narrow during perimenopause.

Changing hormones during this phase of life influence your nervous system and the way that your body responds to stress.

We can try to reduce sources of stress and this can help, however it’s also important to learn how to help your nervous system become more flexible because some stress is inevitable.

If you arrive at this stage of your life with an already dysregulation nervous system (very common) then it’s likely that overwhelm, anxiety, sleep issues and other physical symptoms of stress such as digestive issues or headaches are going to show up.

If you’d like to learn how to work with your nervous system so that you can ride the waves of life with less upheaval the link to book a naturopathic consultation is in my bio.

I incorporate Breathwork alongside naturopathy with is a very effective strategy for stress management and nervous system regulation 🌸

Feeling anxious in the lead up to your period can be a sign of hormonal imbalance, most often low progesterone in ratio to oestrogen.

This can become even more pronounced during perimenopause when low progesterone is really common.

The good news is that there are ways to address this through nutrition, herbs and strategies such as breathwork to reduce stress and anxiety.

🌀 Women with ADHD are over three times more likely to experience PMDD, a severe premenstrual mood disorder.

Several mechanisms could explain the link, including the fact that rising and falling estrogen impacts key neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and histamine.

Importantly, a tendency to high histamine may also be part of the ADHD picture, affecting not only mood and attention but also sensory sensitivity and sleep.

There's still a lot to learn, but the overlap between ADHD, hormones, and histamine could be a crucial missing piece in understanding why some women experience such intense premenstrual symptoms.

My Story

I support women to feel less stressed, enjoy more energy and balanced hormones through a body, mind spirit approach combining naturopathy, breathwork, holistic coaching and energy balancing.

I have over 15 years experience in these modalities and am a qualified Naturopath, Herbalist and Women's Integrative Holistic Health Coach and BreathWork/Energy Work Practitioner. I enjoy providing an individualised approach tailored specifically to you, addressing not only your current health needs but also with the intention of improving ongoing overall wellbeing and assisting you in meeting your health goals. As a mother and step mother myself I understand the challenges that many experience balacing your own needs with those of others.

I also offer Chakradance workshops, group breathwork sessions and women’s circle sessions along with a variety of online programs. I’m located in Ballarat and also offer consultations via Skype/Zoom or phone for those living outside of Ballarat.

Whilst I am able to assist in the management of a wide range of health conditions, I have a passion for natural stress managment because most often it is the driver of the women's hormonal issues, adrenal fatigue and burn out that I see so regularly in the women who I work with.
