We are proud to again support the Waimeha Mandate Cup, the Karioi ride is the first race to kick off 'The Big Three' races for Distance Riding New Zealand - DRNZ.

There are some awesome loop rides, offering distances of 10, 20, 40, 80 and 120km, with stunning mountain views.

This trophy and event honours the legendary Waimeha Mandate, a stallion owned by Noel and Merle Ritchie. He is the forefather of many successful endurance horses, plenty of whom compete today. Mandate was campaigned between the mid 1980's and 1999, ridden by both Noel and his daughter Sharee. Mandate was renowned for his calm demeanour and holds the record for the most qualified kms in the history of NZ distance riding at 9300kms!

Good luck to all on the Anniversary Weekend of 24–25 January 2026, enjoy those incredible views of Mount Ruapehu.

On a New Year fitness kick, and taking your bestest friend along for the ride?

Running with your dog can be great fun! But, just like us, they need to build up to it gradually – especially if they have any existing health issues.

Conditions such as arthritis and hip dysplasia can be aggravated by high-impact activity.

It’s always a good idea to see your vet before starting a running regime with your pet. Together, you can make sure your dog is in good shape before starting out, and avoid problems later on.

As we are in the Summer months it's a good reminder that the warmer conditions place additional demands on your horse’s cardiovascular fitness.

Poor cardiovascular fitness can lead to fatigue, reduced proprioceptive ability, and fatigued soft tissues, all of which can lead to joint injuries.

When it comes to training, you may want to work your horse in the cooler part of the day. If riding in the middle of the day is unavoidable, reduce both the intensity and duration of your training sessions until your horse has had a chance to acclimatise to the warmer conditions.

Of course, if you are likely to be competing in hot weather, you will need to create a training plan that enables both yourself and your horse to prepare for such conditions. Remember, good riding also relies on a fit rider!

Already looking to pack up the Christmas tree for another year?

We hope it survived your feline friend's attention. With the baubles packed away, it may be time to look at other forms of active play for your cat.

Cats love to chase and pounce, as this is how their ancestors hunted for food. One of the easiest ways to provoke this high energy behaviour is with toys that imitate prey or prey movement. There are plenty of automated options such as windup toy mice and butterfly spinners, however often the best are the simplest, such as a long piece of thick soft cord which can be towed along the floor. This can be dragged up and down stairs as well as on and off furniture that will have puss leaping for joy and working on those muscles and endorphins.

Soft small balls, pompoms and scrunched up balls of foil make great pretend prey too!

Our drive to help animals all over the world lead happier and healthier lives is at the centre of everything we do. It was wonderful to recently receive this feedback from one of our 4CYTE™ fans in Canada.

"Just wanted to let you know how awesome we think 4CYTE is!

About 10 years ago a friend recommended it to us, our Cairn Terrier was having some stiffness in her legs. The vet suggested a $6,000 surgery (CCL) but advised us she would still have arthritis after the surgery so we decided not to do it.

Our dog has been taking 4CYTE regularly for about 8-9 years and she is now 17 years old. She runs in the yard and chases the cat around the house. She has trouble with the stairs but we don’t mind helping her at this age.

Team Riverview K9s are on a well earned break after a busy few weeks leading up to the New Zealand Dog Agility Championships.

All their dogs came home with some brilliant results. Rise finished off the weekend by taking out the Jumpers A 500 Final and also the Overall Winner title, go Rise! She has now been both the Senior and Jumpers A National Champion, such a clever girl.

We are proud to support the joint health of Team Riverview K9s in New Zealand. Bring on 2026 - more exciting times are ahead for them.
