Sacred Smoke 🌬🪶

Have you ever thought beyond Smudge Sticks and Palo Santo?

The term 'smudging' refers to a Native American ceremonial or ritual practice, and is often appropriated in our Western culture.

However, burning herbs and using aromatic smoke is a pancultural ritual that has been practiced the world over since ancient times.

Have you ever tapped into what is growing in your garden that can be used sustainably and intentionally to become part of your daily ritual?

In Week 3 of A Spell In Time we will be learning all about Sacred Smoke. We will begin by walking the medicinal labyrinth by candle light, feeling the energies of the herbs as we experience them with all senses. Then we will be crafting our own herbal smoke bundles and learning about the magickal properties of each plant ally.

We will also be creating sacred smoke fans. I'll be bringing along a selection of feathers from my personal collection - but of course you are welcome to bring your own to add to your sacred tool. I ask that everyone spends some time in nature prior to our circle to find a stick to use for the handle.

Together we will go on a drum journey to connect with our herbal allies, animal medicine and tree energies before we step into the creative aspect of our circle.

I believe that feathers are gifted to me by Spirit, and that Spirit works through me as I birth magical tools for other people, connecting them with exactly the medicine they need.

There will be resources at your disposal such as animal medicine cards and reference books, so you can discover the energies you are weaving into being as we craft our Spell In Time.

There are 3 places left. Please visit the link in my bio for circle dates and more information, or as always leave me a comment or DM with any questions

I’ve been putting off doing this post, because to be truthful I don’t actually know what I am doing.

However, it has become obvious to me over the last couple of months (maybe 6+) that I’ve got many balls in the air currently and I’m not feeling like I’m keeping them all up. I like to do everything I do to the best of my ability, all the time, and therefore the ball I feel I can put down safely at the moment is this one- Babies Ballarat.

It’s a hard ball to place down, as I love it! I love what I’ve built, created and most of all how many beautiful families I’ve had the pleasure of guiding and educating through such a pivotal time of their lives.

This is definitely not goodbye, just more a ‘hit pause’ for a while and see where this crazy world takes me right now. I’m thinking I’ll have more answers in a couple of months!

My own little family are my absolute priority and by taking this time off ‘work’ I hope to be able to enjoy more time with them, doing the ‘fun’ stuff (while still doing all the washing, cleaning, taxi-ing, cooking 🤪!) & continue to support my husband and our main business and income.

There are also some other incredible birth educators in the area that you can touch base with if you are looking for courses etc...
Here are a few that I know of, but I’m sure there are others I’ve forgotten or don’t know, so please feel free to comment and tag them into this post!

Some amazing Calmbirth educators-

Kirsty will be up and running in the very near future around the Hamilton/Warrnambool/Grampians regions!

Lauretta located in ballarat.

Kyra over at .connection is located around the Bendigo area.

Katie is a hypnobirthing educator in Ballarat.

You can also check out the website to see who might have a course available near you!

You are also more than welcome to continue to call/email/message me and I will hopefully be able to point you in a direction that helps!

So for now, I’m going to try to enjoy a few more hot cups of tea, while expanding my agricultural business knowledge and parenting skills!

Much love, and thank you to you all.

Public, private, obstetrician, midwives, homebirth…who, what, where 🤯

Dating scans, blood tests, genetic screening, prenatal vitamins 🤯

The decisions are many, and the decisions you make in these early days can actually set you on a specific path, so it’s good to know your options from the outset rather than winging it in the hope you get it right!

All too often I get phone calls, emails or have conversations with people that have no idea what happens once they get that positive line on a pregnancy test.

It’s a great idea to have knowledge before you *have* to make the decision so please check out this blog post on my website if you are trying to conceive, thinking about conceiving, or have recently conceived… or if you are just interested in what is available to expectant families and what you didn’t realise was available to you 😆

Link is in the bio, or head to the website and under the resources tab is the blog tab. Open it up & you should find this one a few back!

Thank you for bring awareness to va**nal birth after caesarean. ❤️❤️

REPOSTED

“I never for one minute had understood the gravity of the emotional aspect of birthing a baby like that... I think birth is so much bigger than a baby coming out of a va**na or having a caesarean, it really put that into perspective for me.”

This week Rosie, a midwife and Calmbirth educator based in regional Victoria shares her four birth stories. The first of which was a medical termination at 23 weeks. Being pregnancy and infant loss awareness month, this is a form of infant loss not often spoken of and we thank Rosie for sharing her very personal story and the complex grief that follows these decisions that no woman makes lightly when given a diagnosis for their baby and choosing not to continue with the pregnancy.

Following her first birth and loss of her daughter Rosie fell pregnant with her first son and this labour would go on to end in a CAT1 emergency caesarean. Because of Rosie’s training the experience was thankfully fairly positive, although she was separated from her son as he was taken to special care.

Rosie decided to pursue a VBAC in her third and fourth pregnancy and had two very different experiences- with her last birth being incredibly fast, a precipitous labour lasting just 18 minutes.

Thank you Rosie for sharing your four unique birth stories with us. Listen to our 45th episode on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify and more.

Is your mind open to birth?

Our culture tends to view birth simply as a physical process of the female body, the mechanical opening of the uterus and cervix, then the expulsion of a baby from the uterus and out of the va**na. But birth is far more complex than this.

For birth is just as much of the mind as it is of the body. It relies on the birthing woman/person and their support team to understand and work with the intimate interdependent relationship of the Mind-Body-Birth connection. The belief systems surrounding birthing women and people have an enormous impact on how a woman or birthing person works with their birth emotionally and physically, and how their body will then respond to this, determining not just their physical journey but how they walk out of their birth at an emotional level. These belief systems also influence the environment created around women and birthing people by their support team and caregivers and can significantly impact the birthing journey and outcomes of birth at all levels. And let’s face it, our cultural beliefs about birth need a big re-work because they are creating too much fear-based misinformation and misconception.

At Calmbirth we believe that an open mind is an open body, and our priority is reframing the way birth is viewed and perceived, opening minds to the amazing possibilities of birth.

So, if you are a birthing couple, or a caregiver, enrol now in one of our courses to learn all you will need to know about the majesty of the female body and how to work with it and support the Mind-Body-Birth connection and in turn, opening your minds to birth. Our Story

Rosie has over 10 years’ experience as a registered nurse and midwife in major hospitals through Australia. Throughout her time as a midwife, she has had the privilege and honour of being present countless times new life enters the world. With three young children of her own, Rosie knows first-hand that every birth is different, and every birth is incredible.

It wasn’t until Rosie and her friends started having babies that she realised how prevalent the associated fear of childbirth was throughout the community. Feeling motived to bridge this knowledge gap by educating and empowering couples, Rosie established ‘Babies Ballarat’. Babies Ballarat aims to make knowledge accessible to couples within the Ballarat and Western District regions of Victoria, by providing education and preparation tools to help families birth confidently and positively.

As a Calmbirth educator, Rosie provides couples with up to date, evidence-based and scientifically proven birth education. Calmbirth’s motto is ‘with knowledge comes confidence', a statement Rosie whole heartily agrees with. Calmbirth is not just about having a ‘perfect’ birth, but it is about acquiring education to create a birth that is perfect for you and your baby. Rosie is immensely passionate about ‘keeping things simple’ while allowing you as a couple or team, the ability to explore your way of doing ‘birth’ through knowledge and education.

Calmbirth® is a highly acclaimed childbirth education program. The program runs over two-days and prepares couples mentally, emotionally and physically for the birth of their baby.
