We had a fun night out for our staff Christmas party last night! We started with some yummy Thai food and then put our brains (and patience) to the test in an escape room. We managed to prevail, but judging by the level of confusion at times, none of us will be pursuing a career in detective work anytime soon - we think weβll stick to the clinic room instead! π

TENDON INJURIES
Rehabilitating a tendon injury can be a meticulous process, but with the right approach, you can make a strong recovery. Here are some key points to consider:
Initial Rest and Protection: While complete rest isn't always recommended, it's important to protect the injured tendon from further strain. This might involve modifying activities to avoid aggravating the injury.
Progressive Loading: Gradually increasing the load on the tendon is crucial. This helps the tendon adapt and strengthen over time. Exercises should be tailored to the specific tendon injury and should progress from low to high intensity.
Pain Management: Some discomfort is normal during rehabilitation, but it shouldn't be excessive. It's important to find a balance between challenging the tendon and avoiding too much pain.
Specific Exercises: Depending on the tendon involved, specific exercises can help target and strengthen the affected area. For example, bent-knee calf raises are effective for the Achilles tendon.
Consistency and Patience: Tendon rehabilitation can take time, and consistency is key. Following a structured rehab program and being patient with the process will yield the best results.
Think you have a tendon injury? Make an appointment with one of our osteos and they can help start you on your rehab journey.

What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual healthcare which provides 'hands on' treatment of the musculoskeletal system and recognises the important link between the structure of the body and its capacity to function efficiently. Osteopaths also believe that the skeleton, joints, muscles, connective tissues, circulation, nerves and internal organs function as a holistic unit.
We treat people of all ages to alleviate pain, reduce discomfort and enhance mobility. This pain can be from sport and work related injuries, to pregnancy pain, arthritis and sciatica. To ensure an accurate diagnosis is made, Osteopaths examine more than just the site of your pain or discomfort, we also examine surrounding and related body parts. The aim is to treat the cause of your pain, not just the symptoms.
Treatment
Osteopathic treatment involves a large variety of hands on techniques such as soft tissue massage, stretching, muscle energy technique (MET), joint mobilisation, manipulation and indirect (gently applied) techniques. Indirect techniques are very gentle techniques we use to treat babies and children and also adults who prefer a gentler approach. The choice of technique used depends on the condition the patient presents with as well as patient preference.
Common problems patients present for osteopathic treatment include:
Postural and mobility problems
Neck and back pain
Muscle and ligament strains
Sports injuries
Pregnancy related pain
Sciatica
Headaches
Digestive problems
Arthritis pain
TMJ and jaw pain
Hip, knee and ankle pain
Sports injuries
Bursitis
Tennis elbow
Plantar fasciitis
Wrist complaints and carpal tunnel
Sore or aching muscles
Rib pain
And so much more!
