Think of the lymphatic system as your body's quiet, secondary circulation system. Unlike blood, which has the heart to pump it, lymph fluid relies on muscle movement and breathing to circulate. When this system gets blocked or overwhelmed (often due to surgery, injury, or illness), fluid can build up, causing swelling (edema).
