Its main purpose is to help move lymph fluid—a clear fluid that carries waste, toxins, and immune cells
Think of the lymphatic system as your body's quiet, secondary circulation system. Unlike blood, which has the heart to pump it, lymph fluid relies on muscle movement and breathing to circulate. When this system gets blocked or overwhelmed (often due to surgery, injury, or illness), fluid can build up, causing swelling (edema).

Normal Intervertebral Disc: This disc has a healthy structure, consisting of a tough outer ring (annulus fibrosus) and a gel-like center (nucleus pulposus). It provides cushioning and allows for spinal movement.

Degenerated Disc: The disc has lost some of its normal height and hydration. The center material may start to break down, leading to less shock absorption.

Bulging Disc: The entire disc remains intact, but its outer fibers weaken, causing the disc to bulge out uniformly beyond the edges of the adjacent vertebrae, often a cause for sciatic pain and muscle spasm.

Herniated Disc: The tough outer layer tears or cracks, allowing the soft inner material (nucleus pulposus) to push out or protrude beyond its normal confines, potentially pressing on nearby nerves.

Thinning Disc: This generally refers to a disc that has lost significant water content and height over time due to aging or degeneration, leading to a decreased space between the vertebrae.

Disc Degeneration With Osteophyte Formation: This represents an advanced stage where the disc is severely thinned and degenerated. The body attempts to stabilise the area by forming bony outgrowths called osteophytes (bone spurs) on the edges of the vertebrae. Also called severe arthritis.
