🌼 R U OK? Day 2025 🌼

Today is a reminder to check in with the people around you: family, friends, colleagues, neighbours. A simple question, “Are you OK?”, can open the door to a meaningful conversation and let someone know they’re not alone. 💛
👉 Take the time to pause, listen, and show you care.
👉 You don’t need to have all the answers — just being there can make a difference.
Together, we can create a community where everyone feels supported, valued, and heard.
So, who will you check in with today? 💬

🌿 It’s World Environment Day! 🌏

At The Support People, we know that looking after the planet is part of looking after each other. Whether it’s helping clients grow a veggie patch, taking part in local clean-ups, or simply being mindful about waste, every little bit counts.

Today, let’s remember that the choices we make matter. By working together and respecting our environment, we create stronger, healthier communities for everyone.

💚 Every day is a good day to care for the earth – let’s keep doing our bit!

Tuesday 3 June, we come together as a nation to recognise Mabo Day, a significant milestone in Australia’s journey towards reconciliation and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Mabo Day honours the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander man whose determination led to the 1992 High Court decision that overturned the false doctrine of terra nullius. This historic case recognised the land rights of the Meriam people and paved the way for Native Title legislation.

For us at The Support People (TSP), Mabo Day is more than a commemoration—it’s a moment to pause, reflect, and reaffirm our commitment to cultural safety, respect, and inclusion in our work.

Let us consider:
• How can we create a culturally safe and inclusive environment for First Nations clients and colleagues?
• How can we better understand the histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples?
• What actions can we take to support Reconciliation in our daily work at TSP?

As a team, let’s continue to learn, listen, and honour the voices of First Nations communities.

There are many websites you can access if you would like to learn more about Mabo Day, such as https://www.indigenous.gov.au/stories/what-mabo-day

Thank you for your dedication and for taking the time to reflect on this important day.

Next Step Disability is a NDIS provider.

Established in 2018, Next Step Disability Services Pty Ltd (NSDS) provides a range of support services for adults with disability in Ballarat, Bendigo and surrounding areas. Originally established to provide a community hub, community access, personal skill development programs and personalised care for people living in Ballarat, NSDS has grown to support over 100 clients in regional Victoria. The rapid growth of our organisation in its first 12 months, is reflective of our focus on delivering high quality, person centred support.

More recently, we have expanded our services to ‘round the clock’ support for persons choosing to live in their own home. We are enthusiastic about the future possibilities for people to live as independently as possible in a supported independent living arrangement, and to position ourselves to meet this demand; and believe our wealth of prior experience in supported residential service accommodation has us well placed to make this a reality.

We are equally excited by our newly established Youth Headquarters (YHQ) which supports 18-25 years olds to have fun and learn new skills.

Our Mission - To enrich the lives of people through individualised services, delivered with a sense of warmth and friendliness, that empower people with disability to live their best life.
