The 2022 Federal Budget has not adequately addressed the rising cost of prescription medicines.

This mistake will damage the health of families, regional and rural communities, low to middle income workers, and retirees in particular as they skip medicines to be able to pay for other bills.

Ask your local member of parliament how they will address the harmful cost of medicines at the upcoming election.

🤧 HOW TO BEST SUPPLEMENT YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM RIGHT NOW 🤒

We have had a lot of questions over the last few days about what supplements best boost your immune system. This is understandable as even just a cold means isolation and a COVID test, and if you’re busy working or running a business in this climate that can be very inconvenient. So, we thought we would let you all know what we will be taking ourselves and giving to our families this cold and flu season.

💊 A high quality Probiotic - There are probiotic species which have been shown to assist in immune function
💊 Vitamin C - Is required for optimal functioning of the immune system
💊 Zinc - Enhances immune cell function to support the immune defence system
💊 Vitamin D - Low levels weakens the immune system and makes us more susceptible to disease

When it comes to natural supplements there is a range of products available depending on your price point, age, if you’re pregnant etc so the best thing to do is come in and speak to one of our pharmacists. They will be able to help you choose the products that are right for you.

Alternatively, if you call us on (03) 5331 1199 we are happy to do phone consultations. We can even do online payments and free delivery for a 100% contactless transaction.

Great news from Diabetes Australia this morning!

Great news this morning - we are another step closer to affordable access to CGM and Flash for all people with type 1 diabetes

Free Freestyle Libre Flash glucose monitoring is now available through the Continuous Glucose Monitoring Initiative.

The Australian Government has also removed the high needs criteria that was making it difficult for many people aged over 21 with a concession card to access CGM.

Now, if you have a valid concession card, you can access free CGM or Freestyle Libre without having to jump through those hoops.

Young people with type 1 diabetes under 21 and women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy can now also access Flash glucose technology.

For people who aren’t eligible and still can’t afford the technology, please know we are not done yet. We will continue to fight for affordable access to CGM or Flash for all.

🚨 IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: CORONAVIRUS🚨

The best way to prevent infection is to avoid contact with people who are infected and to practice every day good hygiene habits, such as:

🚫 Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
🚫 Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
🏠 Stay home when you are sick.
🤭 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
🖐 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

The coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is thought to be transmitted mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how the flu and other respiratory infections are spread. Spread has generally occurred between close contacts.

There is no vaccine as yet for the coronavirus.

For more information or if you have any concerns please either phone us, visit our friendly pharmacists or contact the hotline below.

WE NOW HAVE P2 MASKS IN STOCK

We have a limited number so pop in now to grab one or two, $6.95 each. The masks we have are modeled by pharmacist Lauren in the picture.
These are particularly recommended for the elderly and those with respiratory conditions. They are not appropriate for children under 12.

The following information is from: https://www2.health.vic.gov.au/about/publications/Factsheets/bushfire-guidelines-use-face-masks

Are all face masks the same?
No. Ordinary paper dust masks, surgical masks, handkerchiefs or bandannas do not protect you from fine particles in the air. P2 and N95 masks both help reduce inhalation of these particles

Will a P2 mask provide total protection?
No. P2 and N95 masks don’t provide complete protection. They do not remove or protect against carbon monoxide.

What are the benefits of wearing a P2 mask?
Fitted properly, a P2 or N95 mask can filter out some of the fine particles in the air. Make sure the mask is fitted properly and a good seal has been achieved. The mask should be sealed over the bridge of the nose and mouth, and there should be no gaps between the mask and face. Men should be clean shaven to get a good seal.

How is your breathing going at the moment?

One easy thing you can do if you are requiring a Ventolin or Asmol to help your lungs is to ensure you are using a spacer!

As seen in the picture below using a spacer significantly increases the amount of medication that makes it to your lungs.... rather than just spraying it on your tongue!

Pop in and see our staff to help you pick out the right spacer today.

ARE YOU USING A SPACER?

With the current air quality conditions around Australia people with are relying on their reliever / puffer medication more heavily. It is very important that you use a with your puffer.

Using a spacer allows more medicine to get into the airways where it is needed. A spacer is recommended for all ages, not just children. http://ow.ly/NCbi50xVJhR

We are seeing a significant amount of smoke around the Ballarat area with it expected to peak at around 6pm tonight. We are currently graded as 'Critical'.

We have plenty of Asmol and Ventolin in stock and are open to 8pm. Please assess your Asthma Action Plans in case they are required.

Recommendations for minimising the impact of this smoke include;

-Avoid vigorous outdoor activity.

-Spend more time indoors. Keep doors and windows shut to keep the smoke out. Open windows and doors whenever the smoke clears. Do not eat outdoors.

-Spend time in air conditioned venues like cinemas, libraries and shopping centres.

-Avoid indoor sources of air pollution like ci******es, candles and incense sticks.

-Infants, young children and the elderly should not be outside and these are group are more prone to compromised/Not fully developed respiratory systems.

-P2+ graded masks may be used, ensure they fit correctly. Hardware stores are the best place to purchase these currently.
