Celebrating 100 robotic surgeries!

We're proud to share that we've completed our 100th surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System.

The da Vinci Surgical System is used at St John of God Ballarat Hospital for urological, colorectal, thoracic, and upper gastrointestinal surgeries. It enables surgeons to operate through small incisions using advanced robotic instruments guided by a high-definition 3D camera system.

Urologist, Mr Robert Forsyth, who performed both our first and 100th procedures, says the technology has transformed the way complex surgeries are delivered.

🟡⚫🔴 NAIDOC Week 2025: Celebrating the Next Generation

As part of this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations, we were honoured to welcome the talented students from Yuille Park P–8 Community College to SJOG Ballarat.

The hospital came alive with music as students filled our space with beautiful songs and incredible energy.

This year’s NAIDOC theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” reminds us just how powerful and inspiring our young people are. Thank you to Yuille Park for making this NAIDOC Week so special.

Strengthening Health Services in Tonga 🇹🇴

Our dedicated team from St John of God Ballarat Hospital recently returned from a collaborative mission in Tonga, working alongside Ministry of Health Tonga as part of the Tonga Twinning Program. This initiative, supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), focused on enhancing key areas of healthcare delivery.

The multidisciplinary team, including experts in Wound Care, Clinical Governance, Medical Records, Radiology (with special thanks to support from Lake Imaging) and maternity services, brough their knowledge and expertise to Vaiola Hospital and hospitals on the outer islands.

We extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Health, Tonga, for their warm hospitality and collaboration.

Special thanks to Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for their continued support in advancing healthcare initiatives in the Pacific region.

Every Moment Matters: Launching Our New Strategy

Today, we proudly celebrate the launch of the new St John of God Health Care Strategy, which will guide our mission from 1 July 2025. At St John of God Ballarat Hospital, this marks a renewed commitment to delivering compassionate, committed, and connected care—because every moment matters.

Our strategy focuses on five key priorities: Sustainability, Care Journey, People First, Integrated Care, and Community Impact. These pillars will shape how we serve the Ballarat community, building upon our recent redevelopment and the opening of the Wexford Wing, which has enhanced our capacity to provide top-tier medical and surgical care to the region .

As we celebrate 110 years of caring for the Ballarat community , we look forward to continuing our legacy of excellence and innovation in health care.

Our team is preparing to depart for Tonga as part of our longstanding partnership with the Ministry of Health Tonga and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade under the Tonga Twinning Program. This collaboration, spanning over 30 years, fosters mutual learning and development between our caregivers and those in Tonga.

This mission focuses on preventing non-communicable diseases, supported by the DFAT-funded Tonga Health Systems Support Program. Our caregivers are excited to visit Princess Fusipala Hospital in Ha'apai, building upon recent exchanges and ensuring that healthcare reaches the outer islands.

We're also proud to include Lake Imaging in this exchange, enhancing diagnostic capabilities as part of our shared commitment to universal health coverage.

We are grateful for the ongoing support from DFAT, Ministry of Health Tonga, and our dedicated caregivers at SJGBH.
