Today we mark Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season in the Christian calendar.

Over the next 40 days leading to Easter, Lent offers a time for reflection, renewal and spiritual growth through prayer, fasting and acts of compassion. It is an invitation to pause, turn inward and prepare our hearts for the hope of Easter 🙏

Tonight, we pause.

At 7:01pm, we join communities across the country in a minute of silence on this National Day of Mourning.

We stand with those whose lives have been lost, and extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, loved ones, and all who have been affected by the tragic events at Bondi Beach.

With compassion, solidarity, and hope for healing.

Towards the end of 2025, we had the privilege of connecting again with our colleagues in Tonga.

This visit was part of our Tonga Twinning Program, supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), focused on enhancing key areas of healthcare delivery.

A team from the Vaiola Hospital and hospitals on the outer islands arrived in Ballarat to learn from our caregivers and see how our hospital works.

We extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Health Tonga for their support in the program and we were so grateful to have the incredible team with us.

A big thank you to Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for their continued support in advancing healthcare initiatives in the Pacific region, and allowing such important programs such as this to exist now and into the future.

A milestone moment for our maternity team

In 2025, we were thrilled to welcome a record 517 babies into the world at St John of God Ballarat Hospital.

Each number represents a precious new life, a proud family, and countless moments of care, compassion and dedication from our incredible maternity team.

Thank you to the families who trusted us with such a special chapter of their lives. It’s truly a privilege to be part of so many beautiful beginnings.

With a severe bushfire crisis affecting parts of Victoria, including major blazes in a number of places throughout Victoria, the risk of fire remains extremely high across our region and state. Emergency warnings and evacuation orders have been issued, and a total fire ban is in place in many areas.

Smoke and ember risk can travel long distances, and conditions can change quickly. We encourage everyone in our community to stay vigilant, be prepared, and look out for one another.

Make sure your home is fire-prepared:
🔥Clear gutters and vegetation around buildings
🔥Have a bushfire survival plan for your household
🔥Know your local evacuation routes
📲For up-to-the-minute alerts and warnings, download the VicEmergency app and check the VicEmergency website regularly.

Your safety matters, stay informed, stay ready and look after each other.
