The Patch January 🌱🌸🌿
The harvest baskets are overflowing with salad greens of every kind, including my beloved speckled trout lettuce. Zucchinis are coming in thick and fast, the early tomatoes are blushing beautifully, the spuds are delicious, and the onions are curing nicely for storage..
Like the rest of the country, we’ve been hit with some wild weather, and keeping the water right has been a juggling act — but the winter mulching is finally earning its keep.
The harvest baskets are overflowing with salad greens of every kind, including my beloved speckled trout lettuce. Zucchini are coming in thick and fast, the early tomatoes are blushing beautifully, the spuds delicious, and the onions are curing nicely for storage.
Next up are the elderberries — and I’m sharing the bounty with my cheeky family of wrens who seem to think the patch is theirs.
The apricots are ripening at lightning speed and won’t be hanging around for long, while the fruit keeps us busy, the blooms are putting on their own show.
The dahlias are just starting to unfurl, and they’re already stealing the spotlight.
As for the babies… they’ve grown at a rate of knots. Cute one minute, stinky the next — but that’s life in the patch.
