✨ Throwback to Term 2 holiday fun…

Our students wrapped up the school holiday program with a ride on the Byron Solar Train - the world’s first train powered entirely by the sun. What a way to finish the break! 🚂☀️

At Biala, days like this are about more than the destination - they’re about creating opportunities for students to explore, build confidence and enjoy inclusive community experiences 💙

The term 3 Biala School Holidays Program is running from 29th September - 10th October... we can’t wait to see what fun it brings! 🌟

Our Biala high school students had a blast at this year’s Connect Northern Rivers Careers Expo.

From chatting with exhibitors , to discovering training programs, future study options, and hands on job pathways, the day was a chance to explore possibilities. There were big smiles and lots of curious questions.

At Biala School, we know preparing for life after school isn’t just about books and exams, it’s also about giving students real world experiences that expand their horizons, build confidence, and help them imagine a future that excites them. 💙

Thank you for hosting such an inspiring event!

🛒 We got out and about to do some grocery shopping... and Hayden’s smile says it all!

From choosing his favourite foods to scanning each item at the checkout, Hayden took the lead every step of the way. It wasn’t just about ticking off the shopping list - it was about building confidence, practising everyday skills, and enjoying a sense of independence (with a few laughs along the way).

Through Biala’s Disability Support Services, we provide active support that empowers participants to develop life skills and feel proud of what they’ve achieved.

For Hayden, that means participating in a weekly task that brings joy, confidence and independence 💙

One of our participants has been hard at work creating a beautiful range of hand-painted birthday and greeting cards at the Ballina Community Gardens Inc

Recently, she was asked to supply 10 cards to the clubhouse and we’re thrilled to share that every single one has already been snapped up!

For Lisa, it’s about so much more than painting. It’s about confidence, sharing her creativity with others, and finding meaningful ways to connect with her community.

We couldn’t be prouder of the joy, skill, and dedication she puts into every piece. 💐✨

Marlin is thriving in his work experience outdoors 🌿

With support from Biala’s Transition and Employment Services, Marlin is now undertaking structured work experience at Ward Landscape and Property Services in Mullumbimby (part of the Mullumbimby Co-Op). It’s a role that suits him perfectly - combining his love of physical work and machinery with a safe, inclusive environment tailored to his communication needs.

It’s so good to be working in partnership with local businesses like Ward’s - helping Marlin gain real-world experience, grow independence and build future pathways.

This opportunity was made possible through a collaborative approach, guided by Biala’s Transition Support Coordinator and support workers hand picked to match Marlin’s personality, preferences and goals.

👉 Stay tuned as we share more of Marlin’s journey!

With arms raised and a grin from ear to ear, Hayden set the tone for a day full of confidence, movement and joy with his superhero pose.

For Hayden and the other Circus Quirkus participants, it wasn’t just about flips and tricks - it was about expressing themselves, trying something new, and being celebrated.

Community outings like this are a key part of Biala Disability Services, creating safe, inclusive spaces for participants to connect, explore and thrive.

We’re proud to support experiences that build confidence, spark joy, and strengthen friendships... one superhero pose at a time. 💪✨

This week, our team came together for a powerful Professional Development Day at Ballina RSL, facilitated by Two Way Street, diving into a hands-on workshop on Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

It was an incredibly valuable session, equipping our staff with tools to better support the individual communication needs of our participants and students.

We wrapped up the day with a shared lunch and a beautiful full-circle moment. We were served by Dylan, a former Biala School student who now works Ballina RSL Club Ltd with the support of our employment team.

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Growth, empowerment, and lifelong support 🩵

🎹 Learning through sound, touch and joy.

In the Bottlebrush Room, one of our Biala School students with vision impairment is thriving through music - playing the piano alongside her teacher’s aide.

For students with low vision, research shows that multi-sensory learning, particularly through auditory and tactile experiences is one of the most effective ways to support cognitive development, memory and emotional engagement. Activities like music not only build motor skills and confidence, but also strengthen neural pathways through rhythm, repetition and sensory input.

At Biala, we tailor learning to the individual. Whether it’s through movement, sound, or hands-on exploration, we create environments where every child can access learning in ways that work for them.
