I want to share this post because it is very close to my heart ♥️. Recently a loved one experienced a ruptured appendix- infection leaking into the digestive cavity.
The gravity of this urgent surgery was front of mind and the surgeon and medical staff were impeccable in their care 🤗.

The wonderful surgeon questioned pooping history- we all agree it’s one of the symptoms of digestive health.

“So what happens when we don’t eat food for a week due to digestive health issues, do we still need to poop?”

Yes, this moment reminded me of our body needs to enjoy those things like water. 💦
Adults make 2-3 litres of stomach acid every day 🙌
To digest food well- we need enough water for digestion.

A mind boggling fact that we need to know. I’m curious to know how long and how old they are, how their diet impacts digestion.
Here’s why, our stomach produces 1-3 litres of hydrochloric acid daily (HCL). HCL Is needed to break down food. 🥘

Children and our elders price less stomach acid. This lower stomach acid can lead to malabsorption and some low nutrient levels.

Our gut contains trillions of microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiome. 90% of our gut bugs are made up of the phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes.

These microbiome have an important role in immune system health, inflammation, and metabolic health.

🧪Using tests to assess our microbiome ratio really helps steer treatment goals and better gut health. In clinical practice we identify the ratio of Firmicutes : Bacteroidetes because an imbalance of these gut bugs can potentially drive:
