We’re excited to celebrate the incredible work of our support workers!

At Chosen Family, we believe in recognising those who go above and beyond to empower our participants and live out our core values every day. That’s why we’ve launched our Support Worker of the Month program!

Each month, one outstanding support worker will receive a $150 gift voucher, a feature on our website and social media. Most importantly, heartfelt recognition for their dedication.

PLUS, at the end of the year, our Thrive Award celebrates one exceptional support worker and their client with big prizes, including a $1,000 gift card for the worker and $500 for the client!

✨ Do you know a support worker who deserves to be celebrated? Nominate them now!

What an incredible turnout! A heartfelt thank you to Leora Healthcare and Esha Oberoi for the invitation to this impactful event.

Traidy Bugeja-Naidoo from Chosen Family shared profound insights on inclusive care, emphasising the importance of lived experiences in supporting both clients and staff. His "Face Scenario" exercise was particularly enlightening; a simple yet powerful tool that encouraged us to confront and reflect on our own biases.

We're grateful that around 20 participants could join us virtually, contributing to a rich and engaging discussion.

Events like these are vital in fostering inclusive, intersectional support across the NDIS and aged care sectors. Looking forward to continuing these essential conversations.

Last Thursday, June 5th, in collaboration with Shelter NSW hosted a thought-provoking presentation at Yirranma Place on the crisis facing Sydney’s + community. Chosen Family Australia and Storm Hassett had the privilege of attending and being part of such meaningful discussions.

✨ Kath Buden (she/her) Principal, Teremok presented her ground-breaking research on “Examining the of housing needs for the LGBTIQA+ community across the City of Sydney”. Her research highlights the absence of the LGBTQIA+ ( ***r) community and their needs from . This leads to an identified need to provide additional targeted research, data collection and support in helping the q***r community to access the housing market. A key theme discussed was the need for housing to be seen as a right, not a commodity, and for the necessity to make housing available for the q***r community through all stages of life.

🏘️ The need for an LGBTQIA+ community housing provider was also discussed, with the announcement of the not-for-profit Beacon Housing (Your Safe Harbour, Your Community, Your Home) identifying the existing opportunities and a bright future.

The panel discussion focused on the role of housing in supporting an individual and community’s wellbeing, further highlighting housing as a fundamental human right, which is felt as lacking in existing housing policy. Housing also has a major role in supporting an individual and the community throughout all stages of life.

🏡 Housing: It’s about a choice and a voice.

Special thanks to our panellists:
🌈 John Engeler (he/him) CEO, Shelter NSW
🌈 Zann Maxwell (he/him) Deputy Lord Mayor, City of Sydney
🌈 Caroline Tomiczek (she/her) Director, Urbis

The panel was moderated by Dayle Bennett (he/him), QIP NSW Chair, with introductions by Lizzie Rix (she/her) QIP NSW Secretary. Special thanks to event partner Urbis, and co-sponsor DKO Architecture and our ongoing support from Yirranma Place, Patrick Moloney and Two Good Co.
