An honour to get such feedback from an amazing person:

"I have both taught Amy and been her mentor in previous years. I have always been impressed by Amy’s thirst for knowledge and fundamentally solid view of the world. Her natural instincts lend her into critical questioning which always gets her to the heart of the matter. Intelligent and curious, she displays enthusiasm and discipline in everything she does to great effect. It was a privilege to mentor Amy and I wish her continued success in the future."

Carbs are not the enemy but, we do eat too much.

We all have a daily protein requirement. Our age, goals, activity levels, weight (and desired weight) will determine what that protein requirement is. The more protein we require, the more food we need to consume. Our need (which translates to appetite) for protein outweighs carbs and fats. Therefore, if we have not consumed our minimum protein requirement, we will overeat carbs and fats until we have.

While carbohydrates are essential to muscle building and general health, the way our diets have developed over time has meant that, in order to hit our protein quota, we eat too many starches and sugars and this is playing a role in the weight gain creep.

The percentage of protein in our diets have decreased. The rise of ultra processed foods and sugary drinks and other hidden sugars in the modern food environment has altered the ratios in our diet, as a by product we need to consume even more food to obtain our daily protein needs.

Your diet should consist of roughly 20% protein. Prior to the expansion of ultra processed foods, this was what we as a human community would typically eat. But since the expansion of ultra processed foods into our food environment that percentage has dropped from approximately 20% all the way down to 13.2%.

If I need 120 grams of protein per day, that equates to 480 calories. If my energy expenditure is 2,100 calories, my diet is 22% protein per day. But if my diet has a ratio of 13% protein, I need to eat over 3,500 calories per day to get the same amount of protein.

The easiest way to get a handle on making a change toward getting what you need without overeating is to know how much protein you need.

-2 grams of protein per kilo of body weight is a general rule of thumb.
-Read your nutrition labels, 100 grams of chicken breast does not equate to 100g of protein, it’s about 30g.
-Finally, eat your protein first. Make sure your breakfast has a protein element to it and when you sit down to dinner, eat the meat first, then the salad or fibrous vegetables, then the carbs. By the time you hit the carbs your body has registered that you’ve eaten protein, the fibre is filling you up and you’ll only eat as many carbs as you actually need to.

It's a simple tweak to how you eat, but it’s quite effective. Incremental changes in your behaviours and decisions about how and what you eat can make big differences.

Welcome to the suck. Learn to love the sweat, the discomfort, the repetition, the mind games and the friction. Embrace the grind, learn to love it. Results don't simply manifest themselves, but they seem to when you put in the work, and the work feels more like nothing when it's a habit, it's just what you do and what you do creates magic.

Find your fitness. Find your joy in movement. Enjoy a lifestyle of health and wellbeing. It doesn't mean hours in the gym. It does mean consistent effort and attention over time.

I help you break down the barriers to you finding or regaining your health, fitness and wellbeing.

Consistency is key, but you have to take the first step.

Health and wellbeing – physical, emotional and psychological – is a marathon, not a sprint. That’s not to say that it’s an arduous journey. But it is long-term and long-going.

You might wake up one day and decide that you are unhappy with the state of your health and decide to do something about it. That’s great. But to expect that you’ll be sprinting to the finish line by week’s end is totally unreasonable.

You spent months, years or decades getting into the state that you’re in now. While it’s not going to take that long to turn your life around, it won’t happen overnight. It will take time, effort and attention.

We all do it though. I know I can finish an intense training session and expect to be jacked and ripped AF and I look in the mirror and no. I might have a pump, but no. It takes time.

It means mostly eating the right foods every day. It means on average eating only what you need. It means doing intentional physical exercise 3 – 5 days a week (given our sedentary lifestyles though, I would say 4 – 6 days a week). Whatever you can do consistently. Like a marathon.

It’s the same with your mental and emotional state. Listen to your thoughts daily. Are they helping or hindering you? Could you read, listen or engage in activities that are beneficial to your psychological health? And what of these can you consistently do?
If you ran a marathon like a sprint you wouldn’t make it past the first 1% of the event. Instead, you run at a consistent pace that you can manage over a long period of time.

However you start your journey, start by being kind. Quitting is easy. Hard work is up ahead. You’ll have a better chance of making it if you have your kind-self backing you all the way.

It got me thinking about mental health and WHY would you see a therapist. I know it's ever so slowly becoming a cultural norm - at least in some circles - but for someone struggling with the idea of seeking help maybe think of it this way:

Life DID NOT come with a USER MANUAL. We as human beings, have only been conscious for a very short period of time by evolutionary standards. We have SO MUCH to deal with. Our lives are extremely complicated at the best of times... and you want to navigate that alone??? Really?

Leaning on friends and professionals for mental/emotional/psycho-social support should be a normal practice. We don't come with user manuals, sometimes you've just got to talk things through.

A different perspective on bullying.

***Perspective: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view.

So, not my point of view. Just, quite simply "a" point of view!***

I've sat on writing this article for a long time now. Every time I thought it through or wrote it out I would have argument after argument (with myself) and wonder off on many tangents and down rabbit holes. I had to keep bringing myself back to the purpose of these articles, and that is that they a...

Taking bookings 🥰

One life. A simple phrase that I said to myself over and over again whilst making some of the most difficult decisions in my life so far. It's nothing new but it's something too easy to forget - who wants to remember that this is it?

But this is it. One Life. One Moment. And that's what One Life Academy is about. Helping anyone who wants to live life more fully and present, by overcoming, growing, striving and shedding so that you can breathe that little bit easier and walk your path.

Experienced. Certified. Supportive.

I’ve been a fully-certified NLP Consultant since 2000, Traditional Chinese Massage Therapist since 2005 and Sports Coach (specialising in Martial Arts) since 2017, helping my clients throughout the Sydney area achieve their personal and professional goals.

The essence of my work is to facilitate self-growth by helping you identify the core challenges and setbacks in your life, so that you can overcome them with confidence. I specialise in creating personalised plans and providing tools to guide you forward and achieve your desired goals.

Privacy, vulnerability, stepping into the unknown. These are typical reasons why you may feel apprehensive about booking any kind of therapy. But in reality, booking is the hardest part! If you can do that the rest is simple: you turn up, you do the work, you rest, and you continue with your life.

NLP is like counselling, it is a talking therapy but it is a multi-dimensional experience and primarily works with how one processes experience. This approach leads to efficient growth and development. It also means that repeat sessions depends on your progress in growth, goals and obstacles. So your movement through life will determine whether repeat sessions are done weekly to once every three weeks.

Book now and get started on you.
