JETS Squash has produced its 1st Australian Champion after starting its grassroots program about 3 years ago.
Young Ben Boardman this week won his 1st AJC title winning the boys under 13s.
Although only 11 years old and being in his 1st year of 13's, Ben still dominated his bigger, stronger rivals and showed what a competitor he has become, more emotionally stable and with great variety he at times bamboozled his opponents.
Congratulations to Ben and his family for the commitment they have all pout in these last few years.
Ben then went on and was undefeated in the teams event and helped NSW win its 1st national title in about 25 years.
JETS also had another finalist in the boys under 17 section, with Stanley Chung making it through some hard matches to play the very talented Kasper Cheung in the final, and although no match for Kasper, Stan showed he is a force to be reckoned with over the next few years.
As all MAASH/NSW players know, Stan has made amazing improvement over the last 18 months and to make his 1st final at a national event is tremendous reward for the hard work he has put in, great stuff Stan.
Other results for JETS players are
Phillip Chow finished 9th, losing only 1 match, and again showed he is well on the way to bigger things in the near future.
Our youngest player, ( year old Ruisha Chu, finished 5th, after losing her 1st match to the eventual winner, Abbey Boswell. Ruisha was completely overwhelmed by the whole experience and played well belwo her best but found her real form winning her last 2 matches 3 0. Next year will be a big one for the little smiling assassin.
Annette Chow finished 8th, and is in her 1st year of 13's, next year will be a big one for Annette, improved backhand and effort will see her challenge for the title.
Niah Low-Nang finished 10th and is another who has really elevated her game this year, only in her 1st year of 15's, Niah will improve greatly next year.
Maeghan Wang, finished 6th, but with a better preparation who knows what may have happened. Badly injuring her ankle 3 weeks before, food poisoning and a viral infection, had a major effect on her performance, but both her losses were in 5 games, and fitness was an issue after such a bad prep.
Maeghan continues to be her own worst enemy on court but has undeniable ability and will be a force next year.
Other performances were
Kingston Lai 26th, who for a player who only hits twice week, played well and was super competitive in all matches, lets train more next year King.
Logan Effendi 23rd,had many chances to win matches but poor decision making cost him, Logan if he can make better decisions will definitely improve over the next 12 months.
Fatimah Khan 8th, acquitted herself well, considering she doesn't play much, but under the tutor ledge of Simon Carruthers over the next year will definitely be better next year.
Across the board all JETS players have made massive improvement and when we look back at where all these players started, 3 years ago its amazing to think they are all now good enough to play and be super competitive at the national level.
I am extremely proud to be associated with all the kids and parents and cant wait to see them to continue to improve.
