JETS Squash ventured out to Hills Squash in the Dural Recreation Centre on Sunday 11th May and ran a Junior event, to help promote the centre and assist the new leasee, James Ethan in building up a profile for this council owned facility.
The courts have been completely renovated and look fantastic.
We had 18 players, which was close to maximum, as the centre only has 3 courts. It was a great 4 1/2hrs of squash - each player getting at least 3 matches.
15 of the 18 players were all under 13 years of age, which is great for the sport, 2 were young girls playing their 1st event, another plus for the sport and the other was a young teenage boy who is just starting out on his squash journey.
The mothers were all treated accordingly, seeing as it was mothers day, receiving some high quality nail polish from one of our sponsors, Beach Toes, as well as some tasty lip balm and some yummy cakes and treats prepared by my amazing wife, Yan.
The standard sausage sizzle, fruit, lollies and chocolates were also supplied, and everyone had a great time.
A great array of prizes were on offer and some very happy young players who were the recipients of these.
A special thanks to all the parents, players and family members who turned up and supported, it was a buzzing atmosphere and we hope this is the catalyst to squash booming in the center.
The next big JETS event is the JETS silver, 8th and 9th June at MAASH, so get your entries in as this will be one of the biggest events of the year.

🎉 Squash Girls Can is Back in 2025 — Thanks to 1Medical!

JETS Squash is excited to share that Squash Girls Can program will continue throughout all four school terms in 2025 — and it’s all thanks to the generous support of 1Medical!

Held at Hematime Fitness HQ in Milperra, this afterschool program is open to migrant and refugee girls from both primary and secondary schools. It combines homework support with the chance to learn squash, now officially an Olympic sport - for free.

The impact goes beyond sport, Squash Girls Can helps girls build confidence, develop friendships, and a strong sense of belonging — on and off the court.

JETS Squash is incredibly grateful to 1Medical for backing this program and helping us reach more girls in 2025. The Squash Girls Can program was also recently featured on A Current Affair, highlighting its impact and reach.

The 2024 NSW Novice Junior Squash Championships are about to starts today and it promises to be the biggest and best of its kind in Australia.

The 4th edition of this grassroots participation event has cracked the 100 entries, with many many new young and 1st time players, which is what this event was originally created for.

With many of our top juniors coming in to help coach these new younger inexperienced players, it is a win win for the sport.

It will have a carnival atmosphere, with a games room, consisting of table tennis, giant connect 4, Archery and Nerf guns, giant Uno cards, Giant Snakes and Ladders, Jenga and air hockey machine, all designed to keep the kids active and engaged.

Plus a fairy floss, popcorn, slushy, and soft serve ice cream machines and a massive goodies bag and event shirt to top it off.

All of this is not possible without our many sponsors who have believed in our vision and continually supported us in this, thanks to all of them.

Matches commence at 8:30 am today so get down and check out the atmosphere and be part of the fun.

JETS Squash held the official launch of the Girls Squash Can program, a study and squash community program at Hematime Fitness in Milperra on Tuesday 26th November. This groundbreaking initiative is a collaborative effort with Mahjabeen Siddique, a passionate advocate for refugees and culturally diverse communities, and a teacher at Miller Technology High School.

The Girls Squash Can program is aimed at girls from non-English speaking backgrounds and recent arrivals to Australia; many attend Intensive English Centre (IEC) classes which prepares them for mainstream high school.

The program was Mahjabeen’s brainchild inspired by what she has seen overseas, and JETS Squash brought it to life with the support of a local sports grant and numerous volunteers. This is an 8-week, one day a week afterschool program providing approximately 45min of study support and 45min of learn-to-play squash. This program started in Term 4 2024.

A Current Affair visited during the launch to film a story, conducting interviews with Mahjabeen, Michelle Martin, 2 girls from the program Sofia and Sabrina, and myself. We will share the air date as soon as it’s confirmed.

The atmosphere during the launch session was incredible, with everyone, including the girls and our guests, deeply inspired by the program's energy and impact.

We were excited to host several distinguished guests who came to support the launch:

Kylie Wilkinson MP: Presented Yan with a copy of her parliamentary speech praising this fantastic community initiative. Kylie even brought her joggers and had a hit with Michelle and the girls.
Michelle Martin: Squash legend and former World No. 1, who enthusiastically coached the girls and shared her thoughts with A Current Affair.
Jenny Lawrence: Deputy Principal, Miller Technology High.
Casey Bertucci: Sports Coordinator, Miller Technology High.
Daniel Condie: President, Bankstown Sports Club.
Michael Hanratty: Sports and Community Partnership Manager, Bankstown Sports Club.
Emmy Lamb: Australia’s top-ranked junior girl, who has been coaching the girls for 2 weeks, and she is a big hit with the girls.
Sosaia and Maddie Hema: Owners of Hematime Fitness, who have been incredibly supportive in making this program possible.

Big thank you to our dedicated tutors and coaches. These wonderful individuals include Saima Haqq, Ammarah Rahmani, Ayesha Khan, Charlotte Jeffs, Fatimah Khan, Jameel Khan, Sarah Nelson, Rema Muniandy, and others whose passion and commitment have been the backbone of this program’s success.

With 26 girls registered and an average of 17 attending weekly, the turnout has far exceeded our expectations. This entire term has created lasting memories as working with these young girls and their energy for the program plus the dedication from the volunteers is truly remarkable.

We are very proud of what we have been able to achieve so far. We have a vision to continue this program throughout 2025 and beyond, and to also replicate this program across Sydney. The photos tell the story of fun, joy, friendship, camaraderie and energy that define this initiative.

If you would like to be involved or provide funding please let me know!

JETS Squash has produced its 1st Australian Champion after starting its grassroots program about 3 years ago.
Young Ben Boardman this week won his 1st AJC title winning the boys under 13s.
Although only 11 years old and being in his 1st year of 13's, Ben still dominated his bigger, stronger rivals and showed what a competitor he has become, more emotionally stable and with great variety he at times bamboozled his opponents.
Congratulations to Ben and his family for the commitment they have all pout in these last few years.
Ben then went on and was undefeated in the teams event and helped NSW win its 1st national title in about 25 years.

JETS also had another finalist in the boys under 17 section, with Stanley Chung making it through some hard matches to play the very talented Kasper Cheung in the final, and although no match for Kasper, Stan showed he is a force to be reckoned with over the next few years.
As all MAASH/NSW players know, Stan has made amazing improvement over the last 18 months and to make his 1st final at a national event is tremendous reward for the hard work he has put in, great stuff Stan.
Other results for JETS players are
Phillip Chow finished 9th, losing only 1 match, and again showed he is well on the way to bigger things in the near future.
Our youngest player, ( year old Ruisha Chu, finished 5th, after losing her 1st match to the eventual winner, Abbey Boswell. Ruisha was completely overwhelmed by the whole experience and played well belwo her best but found her real form winning her last 2 matches 3 0. Next year will be a big one for the little smiling assassin.
Annette Chow finished 8th, and is in her 1st year of 13's, next year will be a big one for Annette, improved backhand and effort will see her challenge for the title.
Niah Low-Nang finished 10th and is another who has really elevated her game this year, only in her 1st year of 15's, Niah will improve greatly next year.
Maeghan Wang, finished 6th, but with a better preparation who knows what may have happened. Badly injuring her ankle 3 weeks before, food poisoning and a viral infection, had a major effect on her performance, but both her losses were in 5 games, and fitness was an issue after such a bad prep.
Maeghan continues to be her own worst enemy on court but has undeniable ability and will be a force next year.
Other performances were
Kingston Lai 26th, who for a player who only hits twice week, played well and was super competitive in all matches, lets train more next year King.
Logan Effendi 23rd,had many chances to win matches but poor decision making cost him, Logan if he can make better decisions will definitely improve over the next 12 months.
Fatimah Khan 8th, acquitted herself well, considering she doesn't play much, but under the tutor ledge of Simon Carruthers over the next year will definitely be better next year.
Across the board all JETS players have made massive improvement and when we look back at where all these players started, 3 years ago its amazing to think they are all now good enough to play and be super competitive at the national level.
I am extremely proud to be associated with all the kids and parents and cant wait to see them to continue to improve.

Well its time to fly, off to world masters squash championships in Amsterdam 1st thing tomorrow.
I am excited to see how I go after a 6 year gap, last tournament of note was Charlottesville, 2018.
Had a few years of injuries but all good now and have done a lot of physical training in preparation for this, hopefully will pay off.
Thanks for all the support from the JETS Squash family, I really appreciate it.
Bring it on, can't wait

The NSW State Junior Squash Chsmpionships wound up on Sunday, at Dapto Squash with a number of JETS players doing well.
Most notable was Benny B, winning his 3rd consecutive title in the under 13 boys.
It was a very high standard final of very contrasting styles, with Ben getting over his arch rival, Naveen S 3-1.
This will be a rivalry for many years to come and will drive both players to improve
The other notable performances was from 9 year old Ruisha C, who played a fantastic match against Samiya S,winning 3-0 in an extremely close match, with the little pocket rocket scrambling like a veteran to chase down balls, she should not be getting to, and then hitting beautiful defensive drops.
This young player is an amazing athlete and I can't wait to see her development over the next few years.
Other outstanding performances came from Stanley C who lost the under 17 boys final to his arch rival Ethan M, these two have now played 3 tough five setters in a row, and Ethan got over Stan this time.
Annette C finished 4th and showed she has closed the gap on a few girls who normally are way too strong for her, but Annette now is getting closer, so some wins are not far away.
Niah L-N, was runner up in 15 girls and has made huge improvements in her game.
Phillip C finished 5th in 17 boys and continues to show he is not far off the boys above him.
Owen B was runner up in the 11 boys and did a great job against more seasoned players.
Maeghan W, was runner up in.17/19 girls and beat 2 girls she has traditionally lost to, and although disappointed to lose a close final, Maeghan is now finding ways to win matches and has made significant improvements in her mental side of her game.
The big break through win is not far away.
The NSW State Junior Team was announced after presentations with the following JETS players being selected to represent NSW at the AJC in Sept.
Annette C under 13s
Ben B under 13s
Niah L-N under 15s
Maeghan W under 17s
Emmy L under 19s.
Congratulations to all age group winners and runners up, and to those selected in the NSW team.
The future is bright for NSW, and I expect the team to go close to winning the national title.
