I love Poke Bowls and there are so many different ways to make them. They’re like Pokémon, I’ve gotta catch them all. 🍲

You can change the ingredients based on your trigger foods and they’re a great way to increase the amount of whole grains and vegetables in your diet, which is great for your microbiome and your Crohn’s.

Here’s the recipe for this Spicy Sesame Poke Bowl (put brown rice into the centre of your bowl first:

Ingredients:
⚡️Medium firm tofu
⚡️Brown rice
⚡️Shredded carrot
⚡️Sliced cucumber
⚡️Sliced red radish
⚡️Edamame beans
⚡️Half avocado
⚡️Alfalfa sprouts

Sauce:
⚡️1/4 cup soy sauce
⚡️2 tsp sesame oil
⚡️2 tsp rice vinegar (or substitute with lemon juice)
⚡️1 tsp roasted sesame seeds
⚡️Pinch of red pepper flakes
⚡️1 tsp diced ginger
⚡️Sliced green onion to taste

Thanks for the mega pack! 🌶🌶🌶

This is fermented hot sauce and as we all know fermented food is amazing for our microbiome and reducing our gut inflammation.

They have a range of flavours and each has a different heat level. These are definitely my favourite hot sauces and it’s a rare thing to find something healthy that tastes unhealthily good!!

Thrilled to have progressed from my heat to make it to the state final of RAW COMEDY 2022!

My five minutes of stand up is all about bowel disease and my experience with it. If I place in the top 2 I’m through I’m through to the national final in Melbourne, broadcast on SBS! That would be amazing for bowel disease awareness.

If you’re in Sydney and want to see 5 minutes of stand up all about bowel disease and so many other talented acts, come along! I’d love your support (don’t use the bathroom for too long I’ll be in there sh****ng myself!)

This is taken from the ‘My IBD Experience Report’ conducted by in 2018, and it’s an eye opener!

Three main takeaways that I noticed:

1. The 55% access to a helpline is far less than optimal;
2. Only 50% of people had a plan of what to do when they have deteriorated. It goes to show how important education and awareness is to making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable Australian Crohn’s patients; and
3. That 31% had to wait more than 14 days to see a doctor and that 27% were admitted to hospital in the last year with 77% of these emergencies. If the wait times reduced the burden on our emergency rooms would reduce significantly, especially in the times of covid.

A big thank you and welcome all of the new followers I’ve received this month!

To all of you, there is a completely FREE book (link in bio) that I wrote in September 2021 which references over 70 scientific sources to demonstrate how diet, sleep, stress and exercise affects Crohn’s Disease.

There are recommendations on how you can optimise your Crohn’s and develop specific healthy habits to better your Crohn’s (in conjunction with traditional medicine prescribed by your doctor).

Since releasing the book I’ve had dozens of my fellow Crohnies reach out to tell me that they loved the book and that the information helped them better understand and manage their Crohn’s (which I find amazing).

Let me know what you think and I hope it helps you on your journey to better health.

POOR SLEEP

When I first started researching my book ‘How to Win Your War Against Crohn’s Disease’, (link in bio), I was blown away by the huge role sleep plays in Crohn’s maintenance.

The interrelationship between sleep and inflammation as well as sleep and the chances of flare or worsening of active disease is startling. If we can improve our sleep even 10% by practicing good sleep hygiene, imagine the benefits we could all see.

I’m also conscious that Crohn’s causes poor sleep and many of us (myself included) can’t get optimal sleep quality. However, no matter how bad your Crohn’s or your sleep is, there are ways you can improve whatever sleep quality you currently have.

Those tips will be shared in the next post!
