This year’s theme for the World Menopause Day (18 October 2025) from the International Menopause Society celebrates the power of lifestyle medicine in supporting women’s health through menopause.
Menopause isn’t an illness, it’s a natural transition. But the right lifestyle choices can make a big difference to how you feel and to your long-term health.
The six pillars of lifestyle medicine are simple but powerful foundations for wellbeing:

🏃♀️ Physical activity
🧘♀️ Mental wellbeing
😴 Restorative sleep
🚫 Minimising harmful substances
💬 Healthy relationships
Explore practical, evidence-based ways to care for yourself during and after menopause.
Who’s feeling a bit tired at the end of the week? Is it normal or do you need to take stock of what YOU need to stay healthy?
and take stock of where you are at this

Day 3 of focused on heart health in women.
This is an often neglected area for women, especially around menopause when our risk starts to climb - especially for women who experience early or premature menopause.
Your GP can discuss your individual risk factors for heart disease and arrange tests as necessary.
and look after your heart!

Neighbourhood Medical's Dr Nicole White attended the annual GPs in Parliament event today, representing the with other members of the Queensland faculty to advocate for
on key topics including:
- GPs managing ADHD and acne in the community
- supporting GPs to deliver essential care during natural disasters
- the importance of listening to GPs when planning for health system changes: we know what is needed at a community and patient level, and that a connected system improves care and reduces costs for individuals and society.

The idea for Neighbourhood Medical evolved organically while Dr Sarah McDonnell and Dr Nicole White were working together. Being in a similar place geographically and in their careers, they discovered a shared a vision for a boutique general practice with a special focus on women and children’s health.
Both Sarah and Nicole have significant experience in various roles, are passionate about the value of excellent primary care and understand the difference it can make to families, individuals and society as a whole. Dr Nicole White is the creator and owner of GP4Kids, a speciality general practice service for children and their families. Dr Sarah McDonnell has a particular interest in women’s health and also loves the variety of issues encountered in all areas of general practice. Both Sarah and Nicole have three children of their own and understand first-hand the juggle faced by families and women in particular.
At Neighbourhood, we aim to take a step away from the stereotypical clinical environment. We have designed our clinic to feel warm and friendly to create a feeling of belonging and safety. Building long term relationships with patients and their families is what is unique about general practice and allows us to provide truly personalised long-term medical care.
The vibrant local community provides the perfect setting for this. Both owners are local to the area and understand the needs and wants of the community.
Exceptional care cannot be delivered without the resources and organised systems to support our doctors and nurses, so we are focussed on optimising our use of modern systems at the clinic. As Neighbourhood Medical evolves, we hope to add likeminded doctors and other healthcare providers to our community and networks.
We are looking forward to our journey with you over the coming years.
