Big rambly post ahead!

When I started Sass and Sunshine back in 2020 I didn’t fully know where life was taking me. Or where the world was taking all of us! All I knew was that I wanted to be creative and share that with all you beautiful people!

I kind of fell into making cake toppers accidentally. I adored helping you bring your cake visions to life! But it wasn’t really the path I thought I’d be on. I’d been a doll designer and maker in the past. I’d dabbled with mixed media art. I loved paper craft. I had fun making cute printables. But none of it felt quite right…..

As life would have it, I hit some speed bumps in the form of a debilitating disease called endometriosis. I was diagnosed in 2013, and over the years it has wrought havoc with my health, to the point that in 2023 I had to do some serious reflecting as to how I was going to manage balancing my family, my health and wellbeing, and my goals for Sass and Sunshine. Whilst I have loved making physical/custom items, I’ve had to acknowledge that my ability to do it all is limited.

With that new perspective, my brain started tickling.

I’d gotten into bullet journaling and planning back in 2017 as a way to be organised but still have a creative outlet. I’d been shifting into more digital styles out of convenience, and had started to draw my own stickers. That was my lightbulb moment! What if I could merge all the different skills I’d collected over the years, my love of colour and pattern and all things cute, and launch my own range of digital stickers?

I’ve been very quiet this year. It’s been a huge year of self care, and learning, and growing. I’ve taught myself everything to do with digital drawing, planning and stickers from the ground up. I’ve cheered when things have gone right, and I’ve cried out of pure frustration when I’ve messed up or hit a roadblock. I’ve sat up til 3am drawing so many times that I’ve lost count, refining my ideas, making sure everything was exactly how I envisioned. And now I’m here in this moment, and I’m going to take a moment to celebrate, because I am so damn proud of me right now, and what I have managed to achieve!

Does anyone else find that birthdays and events sneak up on them? Personally, I’m either completely organised weeks in advance, or I’m literally pulling something together 5 minutes before we need to sing happy birthday 😂 since I know how sneaky birthdays can be, I’m working on a few “available now” toppers! I finished this “2 sweet” topper yesterday, and I have a rainbow topper in the works 💛

Dinosaurs aren’t just for boys, or little kiddos! I had a lot of fun creating this super cute Dino cake topper for a super cool 18 year old! 🦕 fun fact, I even designed some of the papers to get exactly what I wanted!

Well, 2022 was not the year I had planned!

It was a hectic year, full of some amazing moments, and some not so amazing moments .. our son started Uni, we renovated a couple rooms in our house, my husband started working FIFO again, and I had a surgery and a bazillion medical appointments just to keep things interesting!

Creativity was up and down for much of the year. When I did create things, I got so anxious about sharing that I ended up hitting delete before I could post pictures 🤦🏻‍♀️ one of my goals for 2023 is to definitely share more of what I’m working on. I have a potential market in March which I’m nervous about already, but also excited for!

So, to wrap things up, thanks everyone for joining me on my little page, and for the supportive words and likes! I hope 2023 is an amazing year for us all, filled with great family and friends, loads of fun and lots of laughs 🥳💛💛💛

This has been a work in progress since April, we took the plunge and renovated our house to make a really big room into two more functional spaces! Still have a little bit to do, I love having my own little studio to be creative in 💛
