We are confident most residents would be aware that if someone is taken to a hospital ANYWHERE in NSW that when they are discharged anytime of day or night, it’s up to them to find their way home .
If your taken to Moruya by ambulance then discharged and have no one to pick you up your choice is limited. A copy of the bus timetable is attached plus we have contacted local taxi and transport services - on an uninterrupted run from Moruya Hospital to Batemans Bay CBD it will cost between $100 and $135 on a good run. If you live north of Batemans Bay bridge it will cost a lot lot more. If this is outside your budget maybe you should research mobile numbers for Michael Holland or CEO and GM for Southern Area health to hitch a ride home with them

Here’s a condensed Facebook-friendly update you can post that includes the key facts and concerns about the Batemans Bay Emergency Department situation:

📢 Update on Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department & New Eurobodalla Regional Hospital

🩺 The NSW Government is building a new $330 million Level 4 Eurobodalla Regional Hospital in Moruya, with a larger emergency department, ICU, expanded services and more capacity than the current combined services at Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals. It’s expected to open in 2027.

🚑 As part of the plan, the Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department is set to close once the new facility opens — despite Batemans Bay being a rapidly growing town (pop ~20,000 plus up to ~80,000 visitors during peak season) and significant community concern that this will increase travel times for emergencies.

📣 Community reaction:
• A petition has gathered 18,000+ signatures calling to keep the Batemans Bay ED open.
• Protesters have openly demanded the ED stay operational, including at visits from political leaders.
• Eurobodalla Shire Council unanimously voted to lobby the NSW Government to maintain a 24/7 ED in Batemans Bay once the new hospital opens, citing concerns about longer travel times and potential health impacts.

🗣️ The local Member of Parliament and NSW Health officials say the new Level 4 hospital won’t reduce overall services and will improve equity across the region, but there’s no current guarantee Batemans Bay’s ED will continue after the new hospital opens.

📌 In the meantime, NSW Health is also building a new Batemans Bay Community Health facility and expanded Urgent Care Clinic to support local health needs — but these cannot replace full emergency care for critical conditions.

➡️ Many locals argue that this plan effectively trades off Batemans Bay’s functioning ED for a distant Level 4 hospital, risking longer emergency travel times and poorer outcomes for people in postcode 2536.

Can someone, anyone please provide an example of NSW Government closing a Regional NSW Hospital Emergency Department for a fast growing residential town population of 20,000 and 80,000 visitors to build a new Level 4 hospital 30 to 90 minutes away??
I can’t, but I would be interested in an example as lives will potentially be lost if Batemans lose their current functioning Emergency Department that continues to regularly save lives
Are Postcode 2536 lives being traded off for a new Level 4 Hospital south of Moruya??

The NSW government is conducting a survey to assess the NSW Regional Health Strategic Plan 2022-2032.

If you live in a regional, rural, or remote area of NSW, this survey is an opportunity to share your experience.

It’s time to again remind the community and visitors exactly what our common sense campaign is clearly for.
We are campaigning to keep the existing Batemans Bay Emergency department, 7 beds plus 8 ward beds - it’s not about keeping the existing hospital as it is ( 7 ED and 25 ward beds) but to retain an essential emergency department to save lives. This is supported by 18,000 petition signatures, Doctors, nurses, health care workers, Councillors and the Mayor
The proposed 7 ED beds and 8 observation beds fits in the current footprint that includes X-ray, operating theatre, pathology, morgue, storage, nurses station, staff room and the UCC
The proposal allows serious ED presentations to be triaged (life saved in quickest time) than either be discharged or transferred to ICU in the new Moruya Hospital - it does not affect the ability to provide the additional services to be provided at Moruya (simple scare tactics by the handful of opponents )

Wishing a merry Christmas to all our supporters, residents, visitors, Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics. May you stay safe and healthy

The Batemans Bay community and visitors have every right to continue to be frustrated and angry at our elected government representatives not listening to their concerns at the possibility of losing the existing Batemans Bay Hospital Emergency Department
The unacceptable and deplorable actions of last week at Bondi should be a message to ALL governments to listen to their community and concerns and act accordingly…don’t bury your head but listen

Can we suggest you contact both the Health Minister and our local member to explain how the new Eurobodalla Hospital at Moruya can service the growing community when it will have less Medical Ward beds than the current Batemans Bay and Moruya combined. Both hospitals are regularly full using current 12 surge beds (surge beds are only used for overflow ).
The Health minister has been stating publicly that all hospitals are catering for overstay patients (bed block) that are waiting for either nursing home or NDIS placements. Batemans Bay has the highest over 65 age demographic in NSW and relies on current medical and surge beds. Simply put, the new hospital won’t cope and needs to be supported by keeping Batemans Bay ED and some overflow beds.

Let’s summarise our campaign for common sense to keep YOUR Batemans Bay Hospital and Emergency Department open 24/7. The following shows support FOR and AGAINST.
FOR CLOSING Batemans Bay Hospital & ED;
Dr Michael Holland, Fiona Phillips, Southern Area Health management Margaret Bennett & Brad Scotcher, Georgie R and a handful of ghost supporters - regular reference to 2020 Clinical Service Plan (CSP) that is outdated, used data from 2016/2017 & has no evidence or proper community consultation or engagement
AGAINST CLOSURE Batemans Bay Hospital -
Approximately 20,000 Batemans Bay residents, 18,000 Petition signatures, Eurobodalla Mayor Matt Hatcher, 7 Councillors, Batemans Bay Doctors and nurses including ED staff, a strong campaign committee that represents the broader community that includes Doctor, traditional Elder, retirees, Public servants, self employed, elderly, business leaders, ladies auxiliary, concerned residents
WHO is fair representation, democratically correct in support, listens, and cares for the Health of our community????
Thanks to our army of supporters (growing daily).
PLEASE continue to SHARE our truthful information and updates

This evening SNSWLHD held a forum (by video) to update our community on health in the Shire including the new hospital and proposed closure of Batemans Bay Hospital and ED. CEO Margaret Bennett FAILED to again provide details of “extensive community consultation “. Instead, her simple political attempt to provide the information confirmed and indorsed what Batemans Bay believe - it didn’t happen. Ms Bennett attempt simply stated that community forums were held in the Shire with 20 to 40 people attending.
On the other hand , we held a public forum November 2023 stating clearly your hospital and ED would close and 600 residents attended. We followed up April 2024 to present 18,000 petition signatures and over 300 attended. Guess what - that is true, proper and extensive community engagement but our Member for Bega and Southern Area health continue to bury their heads in (whatever) and ignore the voice and concerns of residents and visitors
Clearly they are not affected by their decision and don’t care about Batemans Bay residents and visitors
You will soon be the largest NSW regional town, by a country mile, with no hospital or emergency department . Disgraceful with potentially lives to be lost
