Great update below but looks like I have been blocked from making comments to Southern Area Health including the fact lives will be put at risk with an additional 30 to 90 minutes travel……again ignoring community concerns north of Moruya river and hiding from the truth that no proper community consultation was ever made

🤩 Wow! The $330 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital is really taking shape.

Larger than both Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals combined and designed with capacity to grow, the new hospital will be ready to serve our community in 2027.

The new hospital includes:

✔️ An Emergency Department
✔️ An 8-bed Intensive Care Unit/Close Observation Unit
✔️ Increased access to chemotherapy treatments and renal dialysis
✔️ Surgical and operating theatres, including a day stay surgical unit
✔️ Expanded medical imaging department, including MRI
✔️ Ambulatory care for community and outpatient services
✔️ Paediatric and maternity services, and a special care nursery
✔️ Mental health beds for short term care
✔️ Enhanced education and training, including a simulation lab.

We will continue to walk with the community in the weeks and months ahead as we step into the future together. Thank you to everyone making this happen!

Please see attached facts.
The Bay Post, May 1999 reports Secretary for Health visits both Moruya and Batemans Bay Hospitals and states “with the projected growth of the area it is expected the Bay Hospital will play an increasingly important role in Shire health “ AND “no question of the Batemans Bay unit being closed”
2001 Census of Population confirms Postcode 2536 has 8,000 - 9,000 residents
Around 2003 Dr Michael Holland commences at Moruya Hospital and without any proper community consultation or engagement starts to advocate to close Batemans Bay hospital and get a new hospital for Moruya
2021 Census results confirming Postcode 2536 population 19,333
November 2023 our campaign commences with a public information forum at Bay Soldiers Club, with 600 attendees, to inform the community of the unacceptable proposal to close our ED
Please note and remember the campaign has been to retain our existing 24/7 Emergency Department and not the existing 28 bed hospital
If the closure goes ahead Batemans Bay will become the largest NSW regional town with no hospital emergency department. On current growth it will soon become the largest NSW City with no hospital emergency department
Unacceptable and disgraceful

Anger and disappointment continue to grow against the proposed closure of our Emergency Department. The community supports the new Level 4 Hospital north of Moruya.
Michael Holland continues to ignore Health statistical information and the community concerns and appears to still be content to play Russian roulette with lives. He continues to play scare tactics with misinformation including staffing not available for both sites. For an ex Doctor you would expect he would understand that a Doctor Bulk Billing service (urgent care clinic) is no substitute for an existing 24/7 emergency department

Please take the time to look at the below map of Hospitals within approximately 30 minutes of each other including data on populations. Another example of misinformation from the current government and Health that you can’t have 2 hospitals 30 minutes apart. No doubt you will agree Batemans Bay deserves to keep our existing ED

How is it possible that one person can impose this unacceptable and dangerous decision on our residents. The same person who;
Did not consult or engage the community
Did not accept or consider NSW Health statistics that confirmed 58% of ED presentations were at Batemans Bay ED
Did not consider 60% of ESC population resides North of Moruya river
Has overlooked or ignored traffic problems at the Moruya bridge
Clearly told porky pies to Brad Hazzard and Andrew Constance when he convinced them to close BBED with a miserable token 3,000 Petition signatures
Ignores and won’t support 18,000 Petition signatures to keep our existing ED open
Ignores ESC Mayoral motion of unanimous Councillors support to retain BBED
Yes, Michael Holland continues to promote he is “listening “ but this is clearly part of a current government term “misinformation “
Michael you can change the decision tomorrow plus get a Level 4 Hospital or be remembered as the person who closed BBED

We have confirmation from NSW Health on what travel will still be required for Eurobodalla residents when the new Moruya Level 4 hospital opens - when patients treatment will still be needed at Bega, Canberra or another hospital;
1. Cardiac surgery including stents, pacemakers and angiogram including vascular surgery
2. Orthopaedic for major fractures or complications. Knee or hip replacement
3. Paediatric - there will be paediatric beds but no surgery beyond urgent
In addition, Batemans Bay 20,000 residents and 80,000 annual visitors will be required to travel an additional 30 to 90 minutes for ANY emergency department triage

Will the additional Federal Government funding for all States announced this week be the “life saver” for our Emergency Department to remain open 24/7 or, will they continue to play Russian Roulette with Batemans Bay lives ? The debate and decision simply needs common sense based on actual statistics and truthful community consultation and input

We are confident most residents would be aware that if someone is taken to a hospital ANYWHERE in NSW that when they are discharged anytime of day or night, it’s up to them to find their way home .
If your taken to Moruya by ambulance then discharged and have no one to pick you up your choice is limited. A copy of the bus timetable is attached plus we have contacted local taxi and transport services - on an uninterrupted run from Moruya Hospital to Batemans Bay CBD it will cost between $100 and $135 on a good run. If you live north of Batemans Bay bridge it will cost a lot lot more. If this is outside your budget maybe you should research mobile numbers for Michael Holland or CEO and GM for Southern Area health to hitch a ride home with them
