We're IN! What a journey, starting 10 months ago...so happy with the result. And yes, I look manic in the "then" photo and can guarantee that it's been a constant theme since January.

Thanks to Angela Windsor for her wonderful artwork that inspired the colours in our waiting area, the wonderful Havenhand & Mather Architects for the design and advice, Scrimshaw Homes for the build and Bright Glass, Central West Electrical, Peak Connect, Chill Rite, Smith & Co Locksmiths, Startle Art and RJ Signs for your contributions. I love the community and trust that local businesses bring to the table. Thanks to our various family members for donating their time and helping out, especially my brother and his wife, who picked up and drove a marketplace reception desk from the central coast, and Tim, Holly and Jacko for spending last Saturday building flatpacks. Thanks to my team for patiently coping with my obsessions over my design vision (it's continuing but we're almost there). Above all, thanks to my wonderful parents, Ian and Trish, for installing timber panelling, painting (SO much painting), renovating the reception desk and making it work, problemsolving, installing shelving and moving things. You can now have a well-earned rest. We're so excited about our sun-and-plant-filled functional space and are looking forward to you all visiting us! Christine

Today is Swallowing Awareness Day—a reminder of how vital and complex swallowing truly is! Difficulties with swallowing (dysphagia) can impact nutrition, hydration, and overall quality of life. As a speech pathologists, we see firsthand the difference early recognition and support can make.

Let’s raise awareness, support those with swallowing difficulties, and advocate for safe eating and drinking for all!

Effective AAC Across the Lifespan Workshop📱🗣️

Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to bring together speech pathologists and occupational therapists from across the Central West to explore the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) with both adult and paediatric clients.

A huge thank you to our amazing Speech Pathologists, Christine Porter and Lerryn Baker for sharing their expertise and practical strategies for implementing both low-tech and high-tech AAC across different settings. Your knowledge and passion for communication access were truly inspiring!

We also want to thank our Speech Pathology Student, Emma Scanlon and Speech Pathologist, Divya Dube for their incredible work in developing valuable handouts and resources, as well as leading hands-on practical sessions to help participants build confidence in AAC implementation. Your contributions were instrumental in making this workshop a success!

Workshops like these are vital in empowering clinicians with the skills to support individuals of all ages in finding their voice. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful learning experience!

November is Rural Health Month—a time to highlight the vital role speech pathologists play in supporting Australia’s rural communities. Nearly 7 million Australians live outside major cities, where they face unique challenges, including limited access to healthcare and higher rates of communication and swallowing disorders, especially among children and the elderly.

Speech pathologists in rural areas provide crucial services that enhance communication, literacy, and overall quality of life, often overcoming hurdles like long travel distances and limited resources. Their work is essential in bridging the gap for communities with fewer services. This month, let’s recognize the dedication of rural speech pathologists and advocate for greater support to ensure all Australians, regardless of location, have access to quality care.
