WHAT IS A FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

A Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) helps us to understand the why behind individuals use of behaviours, especially those behaviours that may be challenging or confusing. By identifying patterns and triggers, we can develop positive, tailored strategies to support individuals and their teams more effectively.

Want to know more about how the process could help you or someone you support?

At Aurora, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and celebrated—just as they are. 🏳️‍🌈

This Pride Month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and affirming spaces for all LGBTQIA+ individuals and families.

Our behaviour support is person-centred—meaning we listen, learn, and adapt to meet each person’s unique identity, goals, and voice.

Because being who you are should always be supported.

Aurora acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which our offices are located: the Wiradjuri people in Bathurst and Dubbo, and the Yugambeh people on the Gold Coast. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

During National Reconciliation Week 2025, we reflect on this year’s theme: Bridging Now to Next. At Aurora Behaviour Support, we recognise the importance of culturally safe and responsive support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We strive to continue listening, learning, and understanding from First Nations Australians how to bridge the gap to a more inclusive and just future

IBSP? CBSP? What’s the difference? 🤔

If you’ve just received behaviour support funding, you might be wondering what all the acronyms mean — and where to begin.

👉 An Interim Behaviour Support Plan (IBSP) is a short-term safety-focused plan developed quickly to support someone while we learn more.

👉 A Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan (CBSP) is a detailed, long-term plan developed after thorough assessment and collaboration with the person and their support team.

Both are important steps in the behaviour support journey — and we’re here to walk it with you.

Got questions about behaviour support plans or how they work?
Reach out to our team any time — we’re always happy to help.

This week the Aurora team raised a cuppa for a cause ☕💛

Each year, our wonderful Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner Louise organises our Biggest Morning Tea—bringing together our team (both in-person and online!) to share a moment, some treats, and support an incredible cause.

By taking part, we’re helping Cancer Council continue their vital work in cancer research, prevention, advocacy, and support services for those affected.

Every dollar makes a difference. If you’d like to contribute, you can donate via the link or scan the QR code below:

Have your say. Help shape the future of the NDIS. 💬

The NDIA is inviting participants to get involved in improving the NDIS by joining focus groups, co-design workshops, surveys, and research projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity for people with lived experience to share their voice and be part of building a better, more inclusive NDIS.

Have your say - We’re seeking nominations from participants, families and carers to help improve our policies, services, templates and more.

What’s a CBSP—and why is it so important? 🤷

A Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plan (CBSP) is a detailed, long-term plan that’s developed after in-depth assessment, collaboration, and planning.

It outlines strategies to reduce behaviours of concern and increase the person’s quality of life through positive, proactive, and person-centred support. ✍🏼

At Aurora, we develop CBSPs that reflect the strengths, preferences, and needs of each individual—because real support starts with understanding.
