"If red light therapy works… why doesn’t it feel more intense?"

Here’s the truth.

Many wellness tools like workouts, cold exposure or coffee give you an immediate hit. You feel it straight away. Red light works differently.

It gently supports your body’s natural processes, helping your cells function at their best without overstimulating you. Red and near-infrared light boost cellular energy and recovery in a subtle, cumulative way.

We’ve been told for years that body fat is the problem.
But the science is pointing somewhere else entirely.

The real issue for many people is NOT excess fat.
It is NOT ENOUGH healthy muscle.

Skeletal muscle makes up over 40 percent of your body weight and it’s the only tissue you can consciously train. Yet it was barely recognised as an organ until recent decades. Now we know it plays a central role in blood sugar control, hormone balance, brain health, fertility, and long-term metabolic health.

Long before conditions like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or cognitive decline show up, changes are already happening in muscle quality and function. The same applies to hormone conditions like PCOS and even fertility challenges. These are often muscle and metabolic issues first, not weight issues.

Another surprising fact.
At rest, your muscles mostly burn fat, not carbs. They use very little glucose unless you’re moving. Which means muscle quality matters far more than the number on the scale.

This is why the focus is shifting away from body fat percentage and towards muscle health. Strength, quality, and how muscle responds to nutrition are becoming the markers that matter.

Protein plays a big role here. Modern guidelines now recommend significantly higher protein intakes than we were taught growing up. Especially as we age or if we’re more sedentary. Muscle becomes less responsive over time, so it actually needs more support, not less.

The tricky part is that protein needs are highly individual. Age, activity level, hormones, stress, and health history all change the picture.

Too often, people leave appointments with their health professional feeling unheard, dismissed, or handed yet another prescription without real answers.

You explain how exhausted, off-balance, or just “not right” you feel and the response is “your labs look fine.” It can leave you questioning if anyone is truly listening.

💡 I encourage my clients to take control of their own health. That means not simply accepting what’s told to you, but learning how to ask the right questions, advocate for yourself, and explore what your body truly needs.

Try saying:
“I understand my labs look normal, but I still don’t feel normal.”

This opens the door to curiosity and deeper investigation.

You can also add:
“Can we explore possible root causes?”

This moves the conversation beyond symptom management.

“I’m not looking for a quick fix… I want to understand what’s really going on.”
