Blog #10 Back to Front:
Finding success treating recurrent pain & injury in the gym, in an alternative, back to front kinda way.

After finding much success in the treatment of recurrent pain and injury with a particular presentation, I started honing in on what seems to be a reasonably common problem.

With this blog entry, I share my thoughts on what I suppose could be considered a somewhat controversial idea on strength training in response to the analysis of movement.

Blog #9 The importance of finding ‘me’ time

The content of Blog #9 is purely anecdotal, delving into analysis of one of my workouts. Exploring preferred and perhaps undesirable movement patterns and, how learning how to tame them can make any workout 'rehabilitative' if you've the desire to change the cause, not just the symptoms of a given pain or injury.

It dates back to a Sunday in early March, not long after I'd gifted my husband a return to Cross Fit for his birthday. A ten pass at a local Cross Fit Box and a little management of our schedule to help make it happen once a week.

I took a day off my regular programming and joined my husband in a Cross Fit style workout.

Blog #8 How to get more stretchy, sans stretching!

Today I'm going to share observations from movement sessions 1.3-1.7, including the revelation that I'd greatly increased my left side ankle mobility, just three weeks into my ten week training block!

My feet used to be flat, now they’re not. A feat (pardon the pun!) I can only attribute to the strengthening of foot muscles, literally lifting the bones to create an arch.

Blog instalment #4: Learn to stand on your own one foot

Sure learning to stand on your own two feet is important, but competency standing on one is too!

Some of you may remember the program I was offering a couple years back: The 8.one.15 Balance Method, launched not long after returning from my second round of mat leave. The program was driven by my, what some would call ‘wearisome‘ passion to get people moving, along with a recognition of the astonishing great volume of folk I was finding who were, (to put it nicely) ‘balance challenged‘. I found most were quite shocked upon revelation of just how poor their balance had gotten, and also quite motivated to change this.

I’ve learned even more about the single leg balance on my journey as a movement prioritising Myotherapist since that time. I manage single leg exercises a bit differently now but I value their importance just as greatly. So today, I introduce to you ‘The Star Excursion Balance Test’.

"Before launching into a "Movement Plan for Action", we create a plan. We start by gathering information; gain understanding of your history, learn about your current pain/injury, and to ensure success, a good plan involves the setting of goals.

For the purposes of making relevant this freaking awesome pic a friend snapped upon the completion of a tough workout whilst I was unawares some 10 years ago, I'll preface my history & current presentation with one of my long term goals: "To find & keep the joy I used to experience with exercise & a more balanced life". This image was ironically taken straight after a CrossFit workout which involved a significant amount of running. I think it perfectly represents this goal I'm driven to achieve."
