Almost 12 months on, South Australia’s AED legislation is already making a difference!
Since 1 January 2025, many public spaces in SA have been required to have publicly accessible Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and it’s a game changer for community safety.
Where AEDs are now required:
✔ Public buildings: Schools, libraries, sporting centres, theatres, pools, council offices, correctional facilities
✔ Private & commercial: Shopping centres, aged care, retirement villages, large commercial buildings
✔ Residential: Certain apartments & residential parks
✔ Entertainment & gambling: Casinos and gaming venues
✔ Public transport: Trains, trams & buses
New commercial builds (from 1 Jan 2026): Any over 600m² or major renovation
More AEDs in more places = more lives saved.
Every minute counts when someone goes into cardiac arrest , fast access to an AED can be the difference between life and death.
Let’s hope our state follows this lead.
